Nice video, brings back a lot of memories. I make it back to Halifax every year and nice to see how some things remain the same (also sad to see how some things haven't changed).

man, this is awesome. I was born 91, so sadly, not much memory here... however, my dad was posted to halifax (navy) when my sister was born in 1988, so my parents would love this. On an ending note, we did return to halifax in 1992 XD been here ever since, man!

Wow. Thirty-years certainly changed Halifax. Add another one-hundred-twenty-thousand people, and a much more vibrant community. This city is bump-innnnn' Love ya, Halifax!

The Spryfield area, which is my home community before I moved to Newfoundland in 2008, has changed significantly over the last 12 years. In spite the large population growth, Halifax has no plans to have a ferry service from the Spryfield or Purcell's Cove area to the South End to ease traffic congestion, and no plan to build a road linking the Prospect to Sambro Loop areas.

At :34, you'll notice the old Herring Cove Road, Auburn Avenue to Sussex Street corridor, before it was twinned in 1990, and Juteau's Convenience Store on the left at :41 before it was closed.

I don't go to Halifax much but I do remember some early years when my dad was stationed at the Coast Guard base and the early 1990s when I went to Solar Sound above Music Stop to take a few audio recording lessons. There are a few videos of Charlottetown too some from the 60s, 70s, 80s I try to take a few videos when I can I think it's a great idea for any city to have a record of what it was like in certain years, not just static Google Streetview but real video of real people nothing blurred out.

Yup. Saw a lot of good movies there growing up in the 70's. We only had a handful of theatres to chose from back then. Paramount, Oxford, Hyland, and the Cove. Scotia Square added a few when it opened.

Herring Cove Road has also changed a lot as well. For example, on the video, the Herring Cove Road corridor from Auburn Avenue intersection to Sussex Street intersection was a two way highway, but transformed into a four lane street in 1990. The Spryfield and Sambro Loop areas are experiencing major population growth. However, no plans are in place to build a road linking the Sambro Loop to the Prospect area from West Pennant to Terence Bay or Harrietsfield to Brookside, and no plans to have a ferry linking the Sambro Loop to the South End or Downtown Halifax.

Everything back then looked like it was held together with chicken shit and tar paper. Thank God mayor Peter Kelly is gone, Halifax has improved SO MUCH since those days. It still has a ways to go, but now were not stuck in 1979 decor anymore
