The selector valve has 2 functions. First is to feed the motor then return gas to the tank it is pulling gas from. This is done using pressure created by the in tank fuel pump that each tank has. If either in tank fuel pump does not work the selector valve will not work. The selector valve also has an internal filter. The selector valves are known to go out or not work very well when new. The fuel hose with blue and black sleeves feed the the motor and have the larger connector and the return lines are white stripped and have the smaller diameter connector. The second function is to provide a gas reserve for immediate fuel delivery to the motor. If you are having fuel issues you can replace the fuel valve selector with the single type from the bronco for about 80$ and run 1 tank. I would cap the unused fuel lines and drop the unused tank. Pull and save the fuel pump and fuel level sender as spares if they test good. For my protect now I am using the single bronco valve and having my front tank feed into my rear tank via the return line, this is controlled by an in dash toggle switch with a 2nd fuel gauge so I have real time fuel levels in both tanks. I’ve had so many problems with the factory setup. This was the best option for my camper van as I intend long trips and want the extra fuel on board.

I have an 87 f150 and decided to take out the front tank (due to some issues with it) and only run of the rear. I blocked of the fuel lines going into the front tank with some screws, extra fuel line, and hose clamps. I did not do anything to the tank selector valve and the car has been running horrible and shutting off. Do you think there is anyway to fix it without getting that singe type bronce selector? If not what year does the bronco you get it off need to be, or do they sell them new online?

@@doncorleone9442 I think all broncos came with a single tank to technically it’s not a selector valve but works and mount the same way. I bought mine new online and it’s way cheaper than the dual selector valve. That is probably your best bet. You can take apart a and clean and lube the selector valve you have but often will not permanently fix the problem. I removed and cleaned mine a few time and I was able to get my van home but it alway gave me problems later on. The bronco one is the right way to go.

You have low pressure fuel pumps in the tanks and the high pressure in line pump as you show near the filter.

Did this on my 88 F150. The valve didn't work right and would overfill the front tank. It was a better option than buying a new valve at $300+

I think you need the selector valve tank. It gives gas to motor right away if you are going up hill or pressing gas pedal when you need extra power. Without it or just bypassing you won’t get the gas to power engine when needed. There’s a single valve that has tank just like the one you show. It was on a late 80s bronco with single tank. That’s best bet

Thanks for this brother! Could you let me know why size of hose you got? And did you just literally slip it over the cut line ends and hose clamp it, or is there some sort of fitting in there? My 89 f250s got the same deal and it started dripping a few months back. And recently started cutting out when at low rpms on steep hills. Fuel pressure reads fine so I'm guessing that its sucking air in some internal component of this weird valve. I'm relived to see somone else has already done this and it works, before literally cutting my fuel lines lol. Btw, so the big fuel pump you're next to is the high pressure pump. If your van is like my truck, then it's got two other pumps. One in each tank that feed low pressure (like 15psi) up to that frame rail pump which steps it up for the fuel rail. Lots of wires, lots of mess and ways to go wrong, but also pretty dang cool when it was new. But sounds like one tank will do us all perfectly fine. 😂 Thanks in advance!

Thanks for asking. Basically I do believe stalking might contribute to air leaking into the lines. Im not sure exactly what size fuel kines i purchased. But What i did was cut the end of one of the and braught it into Autozone. I just compared sizes and went from there. I used hose clamps....those screw-down clamps to secure them to the ends. You might also want to check and clean the throttle body as well. Although the stalling stopped after tge bypass....it would idle rough sometimes. I then later onremoved the throttle boday and soacked it ok injector/catborator cleaner for a few hours. It awesome afterwards. But the bypass will make a big difference. I think its cuz of air leaks.

Try interchainging the fuel feed connections that u bypassed. This could be caused the oriantation of the input and exit tubes that flow into the tank. don't forget that you have two feeds coming out of the tank. In operation...1 feed goes into the engine and the other feed returns from the engine to the tank.

How much is the selector valve and would you just replace the part if you could, I'm having stalling issues when applying gas..or at a stop light
@Azariah287

That could be your fuel filter. A selector valve has one also. But it could be damaged, causing stalling. I would try replacing the fuel filters....the main and one at the injectors. A new selector valve is about $300
