Mike Webster In February, 1989, he signed on as an assistant coach under Schottenheimer in Kansas City. ''A new beginning,'' Webster called it. He was on the job less than a month when he realized he was a better center than anyone he was coaching. He asked Schottenheimer to put him on the active roster. The head coach agreed and Webster wound up starting every game in 1989.

@@G0Chiefs Definitely. Also, Dermontti Dawson of the Steelers benefited as he mentioned in his hall of fame speech. “I used to observe Mike each day, and saw how he approached every aspect of his game. Mike used to be the first one to the weight room every morning, the first one in the meetings,” Dawson said. “Mike was a leader, whether he wanted to be or not, because he led by example. I tried to emulate everything Mike did. Mike had a profound impact on my life, and even to this day, I try to be like Mike.”

The most memorable aspect of this season was the breakout of Christian Okoye. He was an incredible talent that season.

I can't believe Mike played 2 years with the Chiefs after the Steelers. He had to be hurting. He looked like he weighed about 225 .

If they would of beaten the Browns and Chargers, they would of definitely made the playoffs in 89. I still remember that game against Cleveland. Marty's first game back, Nationally televised game, which ended in a tie. Lowery missed two back to back easy FG's in overtime. I have that game on DVD. The Charger game was toward the end of the season when the Chiefs were smoking hot. They jumped out to a 13 - 0 lead at home only to squander the lead and lose. I remember being a teenager watching that game like it was yesterday. Still, 1989 was a great year to be a Chiefs fan.

It was the 1989 season. 10-10. I remember watching that game. Neil Smith recovered a fumble and rolled into the end zone for the TD

@@G0Chiefs That's right, I remember now. The year before was another crazy game against the Chiefs that was 6-3 or something like that. We had some really low scoring weird games against the Chiefs during that time period. The tie game and also a game we played against the Vikings were games I have remembered even after all these years.

Marty helped bring the franchise back from a long post Stram dark period but sadly as would happen before in Cleveland and after in San Diego had bad luck with stuff like missed field goals, fumbles and even a fumbled back interception. Also he had both Cowher and Dungy on his staff
