This was the final curtain call for the 1980's Mets. The end of a era.

1990 was such a distinctive year for the Mets... Even though they were a good team winning 90 games, and it was their final year of success since it all started in 1984 (maybe 1983), me as a Mets fan, I didnt want the Mets to make the postseason, because I didnt want this Mets core to win a title or make the WS without Keith and Carte

@@hmhm856 Cashen got rid of Mitchell, Myers and Dykstra. All three had monster years after they left. If they kept 2 of those 3 they could've kept contending for a little longer. Carter and Hernandez were old. Hundley didnt start full time until 93 or 94 ish.

In a pitcher's ball park and without the DH, the Mets led the MAJORS in Home Runs and Runs Scored. Better offensively than any team in baseball, even in the American League. Simply the best offensive team in baseball in 1990.

Strawberry had 37 HRs that year. Maybe his best year along with 87 and 88.

It definitely was. 91-95 were not good years at all. 96 was not so good either, but they had Todd Hundley, Lance Johnson and Bernard Gilkey have career years. The pitching i think was banged up as well as inexperienced.

if the same playoff format of today with the wild card started in 1984 instead of 1994 the mets would of been in the postseason 7 straight years from 84 to 90

Yup, my diehard Mets' fan grandpa died that September and the Mets would not even finish with a winning record again until 1997. Who could forget the Coleman/Bonilla/Saberhagen years from 1991-1993? They were so embarassingly bad when I had really started becoming a fan as a child in 1992.
