Great insights, great ‘70s photo of your dad. I have a 964 and the first thing I did was to replace the aftermarket radio with the Porsche Classic Communications Module… no battery drain issues, and looks great. Also had the usual rear lens issues, so replaced those and it looks amazing. 68,000 miles on mine and it’s running like new. Classic 911 looks and experience without the classic inconvenience.

964 and 993 are the best 911's ever made. Looks wise I like 964 front but the rear is pretty underwhelming whereas 993 ass is perfect. But both still amazing lookers and the pinnacle of 911. I wish I had them both. Cheers.

Great video. The 964 is a cool platform for sure and I love the enthusiasm. For me, though, after owning one for a year I really thought it was way overvalued for the ownership experience it actually delivers. I sold mine and bought an early 911 hot rod and haven’t looked back.

First of all, it is a real honor to have you watch my video. I'm a huge fan of your content! Thanks for taking the time. I tend to agree that it is a great car but may be overvalued in comparison to other 911s but I think it all depends on what you want from an "old" 911. For example, for my Dad, this is perfect. For me, I really love the raw feel of the G-body cars. I used to think I wanted a G50 but now I really don't prefer it. I do think the looks of the 964s are awesome though!

964s are pricy, in part because they’re scarce, but also because they’re one of the few classic sports cars that are generally reliable, comfortable enough, and satisfying to drive. If I had a 10-car collection, I think I’d go with more vintage stuff like a 356, but what I like about the 964 is that when I go out to the garage I’m not forced to choose between classic rush or modern conveniences. The PCCM upgrade is enough, and you can take it out for a dinner date after a Sunday mountain drive. So, meets the needs for a lot of us.

You're fortunate to have the perfect color combo and such a perfectly maintained 964. IMO the 964 is the most beautiful shape and styling of the air cooled 911s. Other than it being the last air cooled 911, I really don't understand all the hype around the 993 right now.

Just found you and subscribed right away. Enjoy the time with your dad when you can, like in this video. FOUR BOYS!! Thanks for making me smile. Your dad reminds me a bit of my dad. I'm guessing he's an engineer? Now I get to tell ;) I bought my 1st 1990 964 in 1996. It had 18,000 miles and I was able to afford the $37,900 price tag ($66K on the sticker). Like many homeowners say, "I don't know if I could afford it now" Your dad's car reminds me of an Oak Green 964 that I missed out on, in around the same time. I can't wait to see the rest of your videos! Great Job!! I got my love for German cars visiting my Mother's side in Bremen Germany. I have a feeling you have a "Germany Connection" somewhere? ;)

I have a cashmere beige interior in my 92 Turbo, but in a different combination - all the carpeted items (mats, tunnel, rear seat backs, door pockets etc) are black, with the leather door cards, seats, rear quarter trim etc being in cashmere. It's a nice combination that makes it a bit less stark than the typical all-black interior.

Fellow 3.2 owner here. I've got an 89 Anniversary in Silver. I never was a huge fan of the 964s strictly from an exterior design standpoint. It looked bloated to me. I think you're a little older than me but when I think 80's and 80's cars the G-bodies are definitely THE car compared to the 964s. Thanks for the review, your father is a great Porsche custodian.

Totally agree. 80s is owned by the 3.2 as an 80s icon. My license plate says "SOO 80S" =). Lots to love about the 964. Good thing is you can't go wrong with a 911 of any era.

Perspective of a 964 C2 owner: 964 is better than G-models in every way - better engine, better chassis, better safety features, best sound of all air-cooled 911s when fitted with a cup-pipe instead of the middle silencer. I'd rather have all that and a "bloated" exterior than an agricultural G-model ...

@@CM-lj8me no question the 964 is better in almost every way from a mechanical and functional standpoint. Some of my small preferences for 3.2 were simply looks-based (dash, steering wheel, non-power steering for vintage feel). I'm a HUGE 964 fan. Don't get me wrong. =)

993 is the best of the old school Aircooled and 997 is the best of the new school water cooled. The best built 911 overall is the 1988/89 G bodied 911. Period! Had no problems like the 964 with the head gasket issues oil leaks or in the case of the 993 heat shield issues or door hinge issues some 993s had. So in summary the best 911 bar non is the G bodied last year production car, not a fault to list and built like a Patek Philip Swiss watch. The popularity with the 964 is down to supply and demand caused by back dates by companies like Singer or Theon and a plethoras of tuners breaking 964 and backdating them, and nothing to do with better build or feel over the older Aircooled or last year production 993’s. The interior between 964/993 are pretty much same, front end is purely down to taste, headlights are okay at best, rear end is equally down to taste. Suspension advanced on 993 vs old tech in 964 which demands more which also is down to taste. Overall it’s all very subjective. 997 is too distilled with Gen 2 and too quiet in the DFI car albeit more so terrible tire noise being a major pain but better build interior switches and pcm, visceral experience is better with the Gen 1 997 still with tire noise but indoor switches were lesser quality and prone to fading PCM was also so so. A base c2 was sweet though compared to c2s. Gen 2 was too distilled for me. Just putting this out there so subjective feelings are not conflated as facts. Get the 88/89 and you are good if the best overall is your intentions! 🙏🏿
