This video shows incredible...some almost inconceivable...tornado damage from a tornado June 15, 1990 in Hitchcock County, NE. I shot the video and pics almost 2 years after the tornado on April 10, 1992.. In my opinion this tornado was a very strong F5 not an F4 as it was rated. I base this on the damage video and photos that I took . I have been unable to find pics from ...ANY...other tornado that equal some of the extreme damage I found. Photos are at end of video
I have observed damage from "officially" F5 rated tornadoes. These F5 tornadoes did throw vehicles for long distances and tear them into several pieces. The June 15, 1990 tornado went beyond that. It tore vehicles including very heavy farm equipment into small and in many cases unrecognizable pieces. In the video and pics you will see vehicle engines completely removed from vehicles and in one case "rolled into a ball . A transmission completely snapped off an engine . Vehicle bumper torn in half and both pieces were folded together ! Very heavy farm combine frame completed removed and twisted like a pretzel . In the video I documented finding pieces of a green vehicle over a 2 mile path . The largest piece I found was about 2 feet wide. Parts of a red vehicle found included just the steering column and glove box portion of dash . One vehicle was so completely torn apart that a seat belt was found with the remainder of car missing. Also found was a car radiator imbedded in the ground with the cap completely intact. The thumbnail for this video shows a truck with white wheels mangled more than I have seen by other tornadoes rated EF5. All of the other vehicles I found were completely torn apart
The following comment is from "Storm Data" : " The owners also had a van for which they needed to find an identifiable part for insurance purposes; they found its fire wall 7 miles to the east." That description sounds like incredible damage caused by an EF5 . My video was lost for many years and only recently I located it and decided to digitize it and share along with the photos. I will upload another short video with just the tornado damage photos. It will include 2 additional photos not at the end of this video . It is my hope that after finally making this tornado damage video public NWS will reconsider the F4 rating and upgrade this tornado to F5.
