I used a stock alternator off of a 91 Trans Am. It plugs right in and works great. I bought a used serpentine set up online that came with all the brackets, the alternator, a/c compressor, power steering pump, and i bought a tensioner pulley to replace the smog pump. I also bought a water pump for a 91 camaro with a 350 so that it would work properly with the set up.

@rewing1223 you don't have to if you don't want to. I left the stock rear-end and drive shaft alone and it hooks right up with a 350 and a 700r4. You can even use the tail housing from the stock trans for the torque arm mount and it fits directly onto the 700r4. If you are going to be racing a lot or tearing around you probably want to upgrade, but the rear end is supposed to be the same strength as one in a Z28 from what i've read. The car isn't run hard alot so i haven't had any issues.
@camaroman1992
12 жыл бұрын
Yeah you can re-use them but you have to bend them to fit (which is what I did originally). I ended up making this car tuned port injected last summer and I haven't finished the A/C system yet but I would recommend stock A/C lines for a Z28 if you used a serpentine system from one, it will look much cleaner as a finished product.

@camaroman1992
13 жыл бұрын
@123juiceyjuice the motor mounts on these cars are bolted in. you have to buy a v8 set cause the v6 mounts are different and wont work but the new v8 one bolt right on no welding required. The v8 mounts will mount further to the front on the k member so you have to re route the brake line that runs along it. Also the v8 mounts only use the top two holes and the bottom rear hole on the v8 mounts to bolt into place. (i had to check this on my 92 z28 but thats how they mount)
@camaroman1992
12 жыл бұрын
@comptonniggaLA You can put any small block you want in the car. If you want a simple swap, get a tuned port 350 or 305 from a 92 car. The wiring harness should be a direct fit without any modification, you will need a 92 computer for a V8 as well. The 92 wiring harness is different from a 91 if I remember correctly so make sure you have everything the same year as the car. (wiring harness, computer etc.)

You may have to have a set of custom lines made then. You should be able to get the ends you need from most part stores like Napa. Then its just a matter of measuring the hose out and crimping the ends on. The end that goes on the compressor could be a pain to crimp since they are so close, depends on then crimper used.

@camaroman1992 If you look close at 1:27 in the video you can see the v6 mounts are still in and there are three holes right in front of the mounts and the brake line runs right between two of the holes. These are the holes that the v8 motor mounts use. You can pick up a set of mounts from almost any parts store, I got mine from Napa.

Me and my dad also done the same thing on two third gen camaros. You have to move the V-8 motor mounts further up closer to the front. The holes for the V-8 motor mounts are already there which can be bolted on if you want to. The V6's in these cars look funny because they sit so far back.

Bird Teele to put a 350, or any small block chevy you want in any 3rd gen, the process is the same.. the 350 will have to have v-8 small block chevy motor mounts and a v-8 transmission.. the holes you need for the new v-8 mounts should already be there in the crossmember, I cant remember if they're in the front or the back but they should be in the holes that arent being used by your current v-6 mounts(slid forward or back one hole, theres only one way as they drill them ALL to accept both v-6 and v-8 mounts from the factory).. you can bolt or weld the new v-8 mounts to the crossmember.. your transmission out of your 3.1 will not work with the v-8, the v-6's have different transmission bolt patterns.. your rearend doesnt need to be changed.. get a 700R4 transmission as it is the EXACT same transmission that you have now but with a different bolt pattern a 700R4 from any GM vehicle with a v-8 engine should be a super easy direct swap, ofcourse you can use any GM transmission you want a TH-350 or TH-400 would work as well but you wouldnt have overdrive, we have a TH-350 transmission in a 3rd gen camaro right now and it was easy to do, any GM v-8 transmission should work but a 700r4 would "probably" be the best and easiest route for you. Save the tail shaft off your v-6 transmission, it will work on a 700-r4 v-8 transmission! If you have any other questions let me know, its not complicated I promise, chevy's are so simple many things interchange unlike other brands

@baojsk8s Nope, it's as simple as unbolting the v6 ones and bolting in v8 ones (I bought them for the same year of car only for a v8). The frame already has the holes drilled in it farther forward for the v8 mounts. A note on installing the v8 mounts though is that only three of the mounting holes are used and yes factory v8 cars are mounted the same way because I checked on my 92 Z28. Also, you have to bend the brake line out of the way as it obstructs the mounting of the new brackets.

Tranny won't work the bell housing is a different shape. A 700r4 will drop right in and you can swap the tail housing over so you can use your original speed sensor and the torque arm brackets. You don't HAVE to change the suspension on the front but it will ride a little lower than it did before. I'm still running the v6 front springs and haven't had any trouble bottoming out. Just have to be careful like with any low car.
