The Hawkeyes played hard, just not accustomed to executing in the passing game so much against a defense like Miami's. The crowd was LIT. Canes were clearly going downhill by this point with Erickson. The penalties were outrageous. He was losing control. It required a Jimmy Johnson to discipline those wild stallions and still let them roam wild. Erickson's offense was so close to being today's O. If only he hadn't been so stubborn with putting the QB under center all the damn time. They would've won many more games and attracted some real QB talent after Gino. Interesting retrospective.

Miami was a defensive team all day. I never understood the one back, empty sets Miami consistently ran. Gino was limited at best. Run the ball and play fake off it. Miami had gifted backs.

Been awhile since I saw that one. From my count, Iowa had 7 possible drives that should have resulted in more than 7 points. Fumbles and miscues. Iowa's defense played well enough to win. Gino with a ton of passing yards. Good game to re-watch other than the outcome.

Thanks to Steelbuck👍, the more I watch this 1992 Miami team, I can see how Alabama blew them out. Because of offensive line injuries, the Canes had no running game. Toretta won the Heisman, but wasn’t very accurate or mobile. The linebackers were awesome- maybe the best trio ever.

The sheer number of penalties and horrendous special teams! It's still remarkable that an ass clown like Ericsson won two Natty's. His teams lack total discipline. He also could not recruit QB'S. I am proud of the accomplishments just not a fan of the guy because his team's could have accomplished so much more with better coaching.

The Canes had good coaching with Butch Davis until 01. He then chose the Browns... and the Canes lost the chance of creating a true dynasty.

Miami could have and should have been called for personal fouls on practically every play. Even back then they had horse collar tackes being a penalty and that seemed to be UM's primary way of tackling. There's a reason there was a Red Cross hotline number on the screen. Miami was a winning program back then, but man, were they dirty.

Really, you could practically say the same thing about Iowa. I could literally show 9 or 10 plays where they did dirty stuff too. It was how the game was played back then.
