This is a video edit and commentary on our 1994 Alfa Romeo 164LS driving around the countryside of Upstate New York. The video shows what it's like to drive, plus a Walk Around at the 7:45 mark. This is a daily driver I bought a couple of years ago. We wanted a decent, inexpensive sedan with some character. I remember when the Alfa 164 came out in the late 1980's and I liked the styling and press coverage they got. The engine is the faithful Busso V6, and the first model years used a "traditional" 3.0L 12v version with 180hp. From 1993 and on, the U.S. cars got an uprated 24v DOHC version of the same engine, with output of 210hp. So our 1994 has this 24v engine, plus it's been upgraded with two easy mods; larger intake runners and a Squadra ECU chip, each good for about 20hp. This is an LS model, without the "aero" body kit parts that the S and Q models got. We are very happy with its comfort and handling, although it is not without some weaknesses due to its age; a few of the electrical accessories like heated seats, power windows and sunroof retraction are persistently balky, and the plastic trim parts have become brittle, so care must be taken when working on it not to break things. The 164 has solid enthusiast support with parts and expertise available online. The ZF transmission has been fine, support and parts can be found within the Saab 9000 community. Even though I do love driving it, the accessory features have required more upkeep and maintenance than I expected... but if I keep fixing the problems it has, I'm hoping perhaps in vain, fewer functions will go wrong and it will be more and more reliable, instead of the other way around..
