just so you are aware the clutch on this subaru is entirely cable operated. the valve underneath the master cylinder has nothing to do with the clutch itself. it is a hill assist brake valve that applies a little brake when you are on a hill to help from rolling back too much. if properly adjusted it works when clutch pedal is fully depressed to the floor.

So VERY grateful for this video!! Nevermind the hill assist people.you showed the clutch cable system on these older ej22e subarus. Nowhere else could I find a visual of the cable setup. (The nut on my cable broke in half, I couldnt tell which side of the fork the piece was supposed to be.. apparently all of it need to be on the other side and the same side)

Just another thanks, really I just needed a picture of where the clutch cable was to adjust it since it was getting loose. 1996 outback 2.2, and it looks the same.

I'm glad you found this, it was not easy for us to find. Look out for the Subaru Hill Holder Feature. This was a difficult problem to identify. This feature locks the driver's side front and passenger's side rear brake when the clutch and brake are engaged while on a hill. It will hold the car in place while the clutch is being released and keeps the brakes engaged until the clutch is fully released. Great for beginners but can be difficult to identify why the car won't move. Be sure to have the clutch adjusted properly or disengage the feature on that cam below the clutch cylinder.

Had to deactivate the hill holder in my 91 legacy. It malfunctioned and would hold the vehicle in place randomly at locations with no gradient what so ever. Certainly a gift and a curse!

FUCK! you mean to tell me my slave cylinder might be shit? Or does a snapped clutch cable cause the pedal to go to the floor?
@jameshaynes7614

you shouldn't be doing videos like this if you don't know the car. the clutch on that subaru is cable only, what you called a slave cylinder is only used for the hill holder and only holds the brakes for takeoff on hills

James Haynes, great point. Notice to viewers: Please direct all technical questions to James. I am not qualified to help you or show you what it took to repair my car. Apparently James is an incredible knowledge base and a fantastic resource who seems to have an abundant amount of free time to critique others he should be willing to spend some assisting you. Maybe James should post something helpful in his page and contribute to society. Keep up the good work my troll.

Why thank you, so glad you believe i am trolling. It is most unfortunate you cannot just accept that you should have done research or at least recorded your video instead of posting it.

I agree with James. If you don't know what you're doing don't lead others astray.

Scott Gerz, when you have a cable operated clutch, you have no Hydraulics actuating the clutch. The thing below is the hill assist that holds the brakes to help you launch off the line on a hill. It only has a cable going to the clutch to engage the hill assist. I should know; I have the same thing on my 95 Legacy and I am a Subaru specialist.
