My 97 is a manual so I went with the s362/68/12 have 5x14 Injectors, 191 delivery valves, torkTek overflow, hotrod lift pump, 4ks clicked 7 times so it revs to 4500rpm very touchy throttle, 20* timing, valve springs and retainers, ported manifold and exhaust housing on turbo. Afc live, no fuel plate etc etc etc. Got waste gate set to 35psi to keep drive pressure down south bend big 13 single big input shaft. 4.10 dana 80 she's very quick to 110mph then she's done haha

Which gauge is your boost pressure? What boost were you runnin on the highway? Looks like you’re running 65mph @ 2,000rpm?
@AES5967

Middle gauge on the pillar is turbo boost. During the first half of the video I was descending at a boost about 3-5psi while the second half of the video I was going up a small grade with boost between 8-12psi. I usually run between 65mph-70mph @ 2,000rpm. I'm thinking about doing another video of this

Thank you! I'm relatively young but I've been involved in this industry and started driving this 1995 well before the modern hype. Nobody wanted these trucks back then and there weren't many video's of them on KZitem either. I regret not starting this channel many years ago. Regarding the exhaust, I've tried a few different mufflers, resonators, and setups with this particular truck. It felt like the 4" straight pipe turbo-back performed the best. The worst was the 30" resonator (which was installed during this video and still is). I needed to quiet this thing down a bit which it most certainly did but boy did it take away some HP.

I just put a 362sxe and 5x12 injectors. I am getting horrible lag, I can’t hardly make boost under 2000 and it’s only 40psi max when it wakes up. So far I liked my old setup better. I’m starting to wonder if something is wrong

@@JohnDoe-ud2cc Same here - installed a 62/65/14 and it is absolutely terrible. It will build 7 PSI to about 1750 RPM and then it starts building some more. Gets to 23 PSI at 2100 RPM. EGTs are out of control. I found and fixed some exhaust leaks and 2 small boost leaks, have not test driven yet, but I doubt things will improve drastically. Plugging the wastegate (which I've set at 30PSI with a compressor) did not change anything. The original WH1C 56/60/14 was substantially better. It spooled at least 300 RPMs sooner and EGTs were controlled well. This is on a 5.9 12V 230HP in an 23k lb RV with 3k gsk, 10 fuel plate, medium AFC spring and stock everything else.

More videos to come! The turbo is one hell of an improvement over the stock hx35w. It doesn't have that annoying high pitched wastegate sound when cruising on the highway. It lowered my drive pressure so the head gasket is happier. Supporting mods are; tuned AFC, 16* timing, Tork Tek Overflow valve, 5x13 SAC injectors, 60lb valves springs, DPS 3 piece manifold, 4k gsk, firepunk trans rebuild with Super single 400rpm lower billet DPC converter. Turbo is 62/65/14 cast wheel.

How are the egts with this turbo set up. Hiway driving and WOT
@AES5967

I'm going to say OK but not the coolest (mostly because of my current set up). Highway driving this turbo does well even when towing a loaded 16ft dump trailer. Down low it does struggle a tad because I have a too low of stall in my torque converter and it does raise the EGTs higher than what they could be. If I were to do it again I would put a stock stall speed stator back into the torque converter. If I ease my way into WOT the temps stay at or below 1000 degrees. If I hammer it from a dead stop it does reach 1250 or so degrees but stay relatively close to that temperature.

Do you recommend the newer 12v interior or do you like the older
@AES5967

Personally I feel that the seats in the 94-97 style interiors are more comfortable. This truck has the optional power driver's seat with lumbar and I've cramped way less in it versus my 2012 laramie truck. The 2012 is a bit too durable/tough I feel. The later 12 valve interior that started in 1998 have better looking and functioning dash's in my opinion. If looking at an extended cab model, I prefer the early 95-97 style with non opening rear doors. Reason because they're stronger/safer in the event of calamity because there's an actual pillar and not a door that swings out. Hope this helps

If you were to have the same turbo but shoot for fuel economy and power too, what would you recommend?
@AES5967
3 жыл бұрын
The setup in the video makes a comfortable amount of power IMO (estimated high 400's HP) and has OK fuel mileage (14-16mpg). To yield better fuel mileage without sacrificing power, the only things I would change on this truck would be the torque converter's stall speed, the trucks gear ratio, and the exhaust system. I live in the mountains and the converter is a bit too tight (It has a 400rpm lower stall speed versus stock) and the truck has 4:10s, I'd like 3:55s. I understand taller tires lower the gear ratio but I still find the RPM's a bit high. I'm one of the few that try's to keep the 12v cummins quiet so I have a 30inch resonator on the exhaust. It certainly takes away noise but also takes away a noticeable amount of power and fuel efficiency. Other than that I keep the truck clean, change fluids more often than recommended, proper tire pressures, use fuel additives, finely tuned AFC, and most importantly I have a responsible right foot on the throttle pedal. Check out my other video where I filmed a walk around of the truck and mentioned the mods. Hope this helps!
