Thanks for taking the time to make and upload all these videos, they're really useful for trying to learn the basics of maintaining my own 98 Max

I had replaced my guage cluster as well, because my rpm gauge was shot to hell, it would just spin and rotate like a clock face(violently-deranged&posessed) but I cracked my trim (in a non recognizable spot,LoL) putting it back together -but the new gauge cluster works fine now. Thanks for your video, I actually used it as my guide some month ago.

They can be, indeed. I've never had an issue with pulling it out this way, but there is a good amount of flexing of the cluster bezel needed in order to clear the steering column trim. If it's very cold, I could see it snapping with little effort.

That could be a faulty RPM input from the ECM, or it could just be a bad cluster (more likely a bad motor in the tach 'module' itself), but most tend to replace the entire cluster instead of the discrete parts inside.

The speedo on mine frequently stops working an sits at zero while I'm driving. I did some research and a few people said it could be the speed censor on my transmission. However, I would think if that were the case, then my odometer would stop working at the same time and it still works fine when my speedo isn't working at all. Any thoughts?

Quite. 02/95 build date, to be precise. The 5th gens look entirely different in the dash, steering wheel, cluster, etc. Not sure what made you believe it's an A33, but the clusters do come out in just about the same manner.

I'd be looking at replacing the speedo itself, it can be replaced as a unit within the cluster. There's not much component replacing you can do within the speedo 'module'.

What kind light bulbs does this speedometer takes?

hi aĺl, quick question, possibly long answer, but besides the coñector plug differences, has anyone swapped the cluster from an a32 and replaced it with an a33 cluster ( digital odo ) ? Any dramas ? Can't get an a32 dash in perth, heaps of a33's but. Thought it may be a solution with a neater look.

+Don Gauvin I installed an A33 cluster in my A32 just to see if it could be done. Everything works except for the speedo not reading below ~10mph, and a constant CEL due to the incorrect speedo output from the cluster (it outputs ~4x the speed the A32 does, which will trip your speed limiter and kill your cruise if you have it hooked up). Always intended to make an adapter, but without some bench equipment that would make it easier (waveform generator), never got around to it.

How do you set the mileage if it's a used cluster with more miles, also can I just swap the tachometer since that's the only thing bouncing around? Also my gas low light does not come on when my fuel is low wassup with Boredmnd? forgive me if I spelled your name wrong.

+Marktheshark804 You can't, really. The only real way to do it without physically tampering is to feed it a speedo signal and let it max out then loop back around. If it's a 98/99 (digi ODO), you can just reflash the EEPROM that holds the mileage (I've had some mild luck with this, playing around with a '99 SE cluster). Yes, you can just swap the tach out, each gauge is a discrete module. Before swapping anything out, pull the cluster and tighten the screws that mount the tach, that's generally the issue (a loose TAM screw will cause your tach to freak out, they're labeled on the flex). Assuming your low fuel lamp isn't burnt out, I'd be looking at the fuel sending unit assy for failure; the low fuel light is a function of the sending unit, not the cluster (at least for 95-97, unsure for the digital clusters).

Anything u know of some wiring attached to gauge cluster that can cause charging system problems?

If the battery bulb in the cluster blows, or is removed, the alt won't charge.

If it is cold out, remove the trim around your steering wheel or you will break your bezel. I guess it gets brittle when it's cold out. :(
