Thank you so much for posting this game!!. I never got to see any highlights or replays. This was my first Monday night football game. The crowd was absolutely nuts!!. Me and my mother did not get home till 3 AM!!. I don’t even remember what I did at school the next day. I thought O’Brien made the field goal. It felt like 10 minutes, but was probably 20 seconds until that I realize he missed. It was so loud. I never thought about it that two left-handed quarterbacks were going against each other. I gained so much respect for Steve Young watching him play. Not so much for Scott Mitchell.😂😂😂. The MNF crew was fantastic in this game. They had me cracking up. Thanks again. I miss this era of football so much.

It was a awful shame and tragic that the Detroit Lions never won a lot more than they did they should have won much more with a supremely talented explosive unstoppable player like Barry Sanders and a great receiver like Herman Moore as well but weak poor inconsistent Quarterbacking and mediocre Coaching and the lack of Defense as well and also a great Kicker like Jason Hanson the Lions should have won many Playoff Games and possibly a Super Bowl!!!

I was in the upper deck behind the goalposts where the final FG attempt was made. As I soon as the ball was kicked, the whole stadium was suspended in silence as the game clock ticked down to zero and the ball travelled through the air. It was so quiet that you could hear the thud loud and clear when the ball bounced off the upright. Then the whole stadium erupted in celebration. At least, that’s how I remember it.

33:03 - "All he wants to do is coach the Detroit Lions when he's done playing" Chris may not have been head coach yet, but he sure did help rebuild this team and 30 years later the lions are one of the best teams in the NFL with lots of young talent, great coaching and a stellar GM in Brad Holmes but Chris had his hand in all that. he is Mr. Detroit, and I was in mid 20s when this game was played and am a lifelong fan. So close in 2023 and they look good for 2024 but just like everyone else they have to stay healthy!

The first - and I mean FIRST thing Sheila did when she was handed the keys was tell herself, "I don't know shit about football. I should seek out someone that both knows football and gives a shit about this team to help me hire the right people to make this team competitive." So she called Chris. And the results speak for themselves. The importance of Chris Spielman (a friggin Buckeye, to boot) to the Detroit Lions cannot be overstated.

@@timouwinga5758this is so unbelievably on point....even amongst our own fans, Chris Speilman is hands down the most under appreciated aspect of this historic turnaround, for the entire franchise. It's remarkable. I still can't help but to expect the worst. I'm trying lol! 30 years as a diehard Lion has left me emotionally scarred. Honestly, I had lost all hope. It wasn't a recent loss, either. That was years ago. Still, I never stopped caring. It's the exact opposite. It's strange how one could lose all hope, and yet continue being just as emotionally invested, if not even more so, year after year, after year, after year, after year, after year. Everyone who has ever lived has had many faults. I damn sure do. But when it comes to fans of the Detroit Lions, disloyalty is NOT one of them 😂

I was there as well. As proof - at the 39:51 mark of the recording - I'm the chubby guy with the mustache waving to the camera coming out of the break for 5 seconds. My buddy was there as well - but there was a white pom pon blocking his face. Quite a season for the Lions, started 0-3 then 3-6; won 7 straight to finish 10-6. Would have won the division but Yancy Thigpen of the Steelers dropped a short pass in his bread basket in the end zone to give the Packers the win and the division. Instead of hosting the Falcons, the Lions went on the road and got plastered by the Eagles 58-37...

The Lions entered that game 0-3. Many people think that if the Lions had lost that game, Wayne Fontes would have been fired immediately after, especially with the Lions having a bye the next week. The Lions ended that regular season on a seven game winning streak, which ended up being deceptive, because all seven of those wins came against teams that missed the playoffs that season. The Lions would get destroyed in Philadelphia in the first round, being outscored 31-0 in the second quarter.

I'm a Green Bay Packers fan viewing this in September 2024, and wondering how much better their team could have been if only they'd drafted Barry Sanders at #2 instead of Mandarich. The Packers starting running back in 1989 ran for a total of 273 yards in sixteen games, though their FB was the team's leading rusher. Sanders' rushing yards exceeded both of those players' total for the year by the 13th game of that season. He was truly a remarkable talent with almost no help on the offense.

The 90s Lions were infuriating to watch because for all their talent, their game management was horrendous. Having to waste a timeout after the go-ahead TD because they forgot they needed to go for 2, being out of timeouts with over 10 minutes left in a tight game, then the fiasco on the go-ahead FG where for some reason they snapped the ball way too early and gave the 49ers' potent offense 30 more seconds than they should have had. There was no reason whatsoever to have all the linemen lined up at the whistle - all they needed to do was stand around, let the clock run down, line up with 10 seconds on the play clock, and snap the ball at 2 seconds.
