It's fascinating listening to Mike talk. His reputation is so bad, yet his perspective is absolutely part of the Beach Boys history. I wouldn't blame him for feeling like his contribution has been unfairly minimised. Brian is a musical genius, we all know that, but quite a lot of the lyrics and ideas for songs we love came from Mike. And I understand his reservations about the direction the band went, but put yourself in his shoes. They were doing great and then Brian descends into drug hell and everything is falling apart. We look back and see what incredible things were produced but at the time it must have been extremely uncomfortable for a guy like Mike Love. His less trippy hippy dippy bs attitude saved songs like I know there's and answer and Good Vibrations from being embarrassing

Mike Love is a wannabe who has to "reunite" the band every time he gets behind on Alimony or child support. He would be a wal mart Greeter today without Brian. I put myself in the shoes of the man who wrote ALL the songs, produced ALL the records, made ALL the money for the band, and then Love shits on him when he wants to write songs OTHER Than the stuff everyone else was leaving behind. Imagine the music we might have had had Love NOT driven Brian into bed and "retirement"? Imagine how "uncomfortable" it was for Brian to hear that the AMAZING NEW MUSIC THAT RIVALED THE BEATLES AND THE BEATLES THEMSELVES LOVED was " airy fairy crap". Stuff Mike Love. BRIAN WILSON IS THE GENIUS.

Deserves no sympathies given the way he exploited Brian's mental health issues, not to mention his godforsaken speech at the BB's Hall of Fame induction (cutting Brian off in the process). And ffs, just listen to the absolute garbage rhe Beach Boys went on to release under Mike's instruction. Dude is a parasite.

I was a kid in The Beach Boys heyday, so I remember all their stuff as it happened on the radio. They were actually the ones who made popular the 4 or 5 piece band ensemble with multiple guitars, bass and drums. Sure had a some doing it but the BBs popularized it and they were before the Beatles. Before that it just singing groups with a band backing, and lots of sax as the lead instrument. The BBs have their place in history.

The prescription drugs Landy gave him did more damage than anything he did to himself. This is an amazing time in his life as it was about a year from ending or less without be separated from Landy.
@danielfisch389

Landy was barred by court order from contacting Brian in 1992, so it was between two to three years after the separation. The facial expressions displayed here seem to be side effects from the medication he has to take to battle his mental health issues, depression and auditory hallucinations, as detailed in his interviews like in the Larry King show.
