I also owned a 95 Lorinser, the condition of these cars these days means the world to enjoying or paying. Mine may have been 1 of the best at under 40k and a celebrity owner who fixed anything and all things. So when I got it, in the 2016s, it felt as plush and good as the day it should. Crazy rolls Royce 300k quality for 15k I think paid lol

I was 13 when I first set my butt in a 300SD Mercedes, and I can't get that feeling out of my mind. I would rather take the old S-class like this one, than a brand-new Maybach. Well, I'd actually take Maybach but cash it out and buy the old w140 and then some :)

I had a 1995 E420. Not even the big S-class.. And yes.. I could watch the fuel gauge drop.. it got about 16MPG.. there's one for sale, a 1995 S500, that's a one owner car, 140k on the odometer. But that fuel economy scares me as much watching my wallet open up for repairs and maintenance to keep it up. I'm just a poor waiter, I'd rather get a C class, with better fuel economy. I was considering this S500, but think I should wait for something more economical! Great retro Motorweek videos !

We got swb's at some point as I've seen them advertised for sale...probably the pre-'95, as this is the '95 mid-cycle refresh that he's reviewing. My '97 last refresh S320 is a LWB, and no "L" in the model designation, for one they couldn't as an "SL320" would be the 2dr vert, ubt no "L" by then as I'm assuming they were all lwb w/the refresh in '95 for the U.S.

Um I think the real reason this test car took an uncharacteristically long 8.0 sec to go 0-60 wasn't the test track temperature, but rather due to having less than 50 break-in miles on the odometer... 3:25

@KP-zi6jx
8 ай бұрын
The biodegradable wiring harness was mandated by the government and effected EVERY European auto maker, just Mercedes was the only one to not do a recall...they couldn't as they were nearing bankruptcy w/Lexus drying up their revenue stream and the W140 going so far over budget. It's late-'92 through '95, then the change from it in '96...so '96 forward DOESN'T have the biodegradable wiring harness. Late-'92 through '95, it was actually the entire car, of biodegradable wires, just the engine one was the problem w/the heat causing the coatings to fall off and wires touch and short. It affected EVERY Benz model in those years. My '97 W140 had corrected the issue, as was done in '96.
@irieite100

@@KP-zi6jx Thanks for the reply. I remember the Lexus brand eating into MB’s sales greatly during the 90’s. The W140 was the last of the over engineered MB’s and went way over budget and the expected release date, so this makes sense. As does the reason for the engine wiring harnesses being the most susceptible to failure.
