Rain delayed practice, Arie's troubles, Stewart's speed, new track records, and Brayton's heroics highlight pole day for the first Indy Racing League sanctioned Indy 500.
Wow, forgot how cold it was that day that became "The Fastest Day in Speedway History"

I’m suprised that someone hasn’t reached out to TG and would ask him why the 25/8 rule was the right thing at the time in 1996 he has been pretty much silent since he was let go of high ranking positions at IMS and Indycar in recent years.

Tony George was the wrong person in the wrong place at the wrong time.I love the 500 but I saw the years 1996-2000 as nothing more than a scab race.CART driver's dominance when they returned proves my point.

Cold air equals big power. The records shouldn't have surprized anyone...basic physics at work here. ...and there are still those who thinks it's "cool" to draw 200 degree underhood air into their carburetors or throttle bodies.

Tony George strung random words together into totally meaningless sentences and figured if he just droned on long enough SOUNDING like he was actually saying something people would zone out and not notice. That's how BSer's do it....

Danny Sullivan looks like his dosent want to be here but only did it for money. Clearly in his heart that day he wanted to speak out against the IRL and be at the CART US 500 but was being paid to be on tv here.
