I just bought a 1997 Honda with 300k+ miles on her. She jumps and I’m going to start with changing the spark plugs and oil change then work my courage up to start replacing things on her. I’m going to learn how to do my own maintenance and fix my own cars thanks to your page and a few others

Honda owners manual says 2/3 of a turn once the spark plug seats, if you don't have a torque wrench. Looks like you pretty much nailed it

2:11 Aren't you forgetting something? Like an Anti-seize lube? If you don't put it on spark plug thread, good luck on changing it next time when it get welded to the socket.

Great video Phillip!!! Spark plugs are something I have some experience with, between lawn mowers and my old VW Beetle, I've installed a lot of them. I use a 3/8" piece of hose to start all my plugs. Beetles had aluminum engines, too, and to avoid stripping the holes going in sideways, the piece of hose worked great. I still use it to start my plugs on the Honda. The only thing I do with the spark plug threads is use a touch of engine oil on them. I don't put any anti-seize on threads or silicone (dielectric) grease on the connection end. I've seen people do both, I don't suppose it hurts anything, but the factory doesn't do it, so I don't either. I use the oil as assembly lube. You'd think I would have learned how to adjust valves on the Beetle. It had to be done regularly and there wasn't a tool that both loosened the jam nut and made the adjustment. We used a flat-head screw driver and a wrench. You almost needed three hands. It was quite a challenge and I was never good at it, but I didn't burn any valves, so maybe I wasn't bad at it either. It took me some time to get used to the combination tool, and the valves being vertical on my Honda (much easier), but since I ended up performing the procedure twice, I got the hang of that tool and it beats the heck out of a wrench and screw driver!

Good tip using the hose. The tool definitely makes a world of difference. I've done it both ways as well.

Thank you for this video it helped me install my spark plugs in my 2000 Honda CRV, I have an engine code P0304 cylinder 4 misfire was hoping that changing the spark plugs would turn off the code, but i've read sometimes it wont instantly turn off and can take 10-20 cycles. Do you have any other suggestions of what to try and targeet with a cylinder 4 misfire code?

yeah how many hours does it usually take to fix a burnt valvae repair? My car has a lot of mileage and I tried to look up estimates on that type of repair and some places I found said close to $1000 bucks for that kind of repair. Which is almost the value of the car unless I'm looking at something else. Do you have any videos that reference how to fix a burn valve?@@hondaresource

Love your videos! Do you recommend putting anti-seize on the spark plug threads? And putting dielectric grease on the spark plug conductor?
@hondaresource
2 жыл бұрын
If you live in an area with harsh conditions, the dielectric grease may help. Anti-seize is a personal preference too. I don't feel its needed if the plugs are changed at the recommended intervals.
