I bought this 1997 SeaDoo XP from an honest seller who said the ski just shut off on him while riding two years ago. He said he tried replacing the computer, which was actually only the voltage rectifier. The ski was completely dead on arrival so I pulled the MPEM and found the potting melted on the back. Under the burnt potting I found the MR2535L diode that had overheated and fried. I located a replacement diode on eBay for $7.65 with shipping. Once I replaced the diode, and fixed the rotted negative battery cable, the ski came to life. My guess as to why the diode failed was that the rotted negative cable caused the voltage regulator to see low voltage and it sent more current to compensate which overheated the diode, but that's just a guess.
