It's amazing to think that my cousin is/was such an incredible race horse trainer. Fantastic Robert.

I backed Strong Promise each way at 40/1 and 33/1, I remember checking the weather everyday for months as I knew he needed fast ground! I forgot how close he got to winning, cruised all the way round and jumped superbly...just ran out of gas after the last. Absolutely gorgeous horse and it was so sad when he was killed jumping a fence at Aintree.

Had Strong Promise ante post 20/1 in a treble with One Man 9/2 in the Queen Mother and Istabraq 3/1 in Champion Hurdle, cost me a bundle, looked like the winner but dont think he stayed 3M 2F

Cool Dawn - the last horse to make all in a Gold Cup, until... ...Coneygree in 2015! I'd forgotten about Cyborgo blindsiding See More out of the race on the first circuit though: could have been a different outcome perhaps..?

Lidia Olejnik As I watched this, I also thought about Coneygree, i think Cool Dawn was headed after the last, but stayed on stronger than his rivals. Lots of my old favourites, a wonderful piece of racing nostalgia.

The noise in the background is the sound of a thousand form-books being thrown through windows. Years later the result still defies explanation, but what the heck, it was a great victory for the "old-school" National Hunt types.

form students where on mate ... look at his form in the hunter chase the previous year and you will see it ran behind 2nd fav seemore business with the owner and trainers daughter on it .. who was not the best ... ... stayed the trip , had the fast ground , acted on the course , had a prof jockey on it .. and was 5 times bigger than see more [2nd fav ]..... who won the race the next year at odds of around 16s i think ... so if you take a look form was there ....

Form showed he was pulled up in 4 of his 5 runs either side of this race. It was a fluke, there's no two ways about it.

It's amazing he managed to win 20 champion jockey titles given obviously he can't ride. Tony McCoy said after he race that he called out he was pulling up but the other two jockeys said they didn't hear him. What's he supposed to do, jump the fence with a horse who is injured risking its life? He had to pull out before the fence.
