I still hate we lost dale, I think nascar would be a lot different today and he’d always been a team owner and wouldn’t put past him running some one off races for a long time. Daytona was sort of a microcosm of Dale's career. He won more races there than anyone (in spite of needing 20 years to win the 500). Obviously it's a terrible tragedy that we lost him, but if it was going to happen, it was fitting in a way that it would happen at Daytona.

We almost tore our house apart that day. Yelling and screaming, jumping up and down. I remember watching ESPN’s coverage and seeing him riding in a golf cart to do an interview with them for tv some 3 hours after the race and he still had his race suit on. And as I said he was in a golf cart getting a ride. But I fully believe he could have floated all the way there that day. And I felt like I could just float on air as well. Then fast forward 3 years, and I had that same elated, floating feeling as I watched Dale do something I never thought I would ever see. He wasn’t trying to win. He was clearly (to any and everyone watching) holding back the field so that his Son, Dale Jr., and the driver that no one could believe that Dale would hire to be a teammate to his son, Michael (0-wins in 462 starts) Waltrip, battle it out for the Daytona 500 win. And I can’t imagine the grin he must of had on his face as he had the best seat to see it all unfold from his third place position on the track. I know I was floating on air watching Jr. and Waltrip fight it out with Dale holding back the rest of the field. And I am sure that Dale was gonna be proud of his boy, and Michael no matter who won. But Michael winning had to be an extra good feeling as he had always felt Michael just needed good equipment to win, and that he had the talent (even though no one else believed it), and he was right. Then it happened...and it was weird. As good as I felt, and was floating around, I knew when I saw the wreck that there was something different about that wreck. I still don’t know why, it was a really tame looking wreck. Especially considering what most wrecks look like at Daytona. This was tame in comparison. But I wasn’t floating anymore, even as Michael took the checkered flag. I sat down and put my head in my hands and prayed. But I knew before the ambulance ever left the track that Dale was gone. How I knew I do not know. But I did. And not only did dale die on that fateful day. But so did NASCAR. It has never been the same nor will it. RIP DALE, YOU WERE AND ARE THE MAN.

Like i always say if people were impressed by safety it would be possible to fill the coliseum of Rome for a chess championship. Yeah sure i don't want people to die. Safety still is a thing i don't mind most upgrades they had on this side. That being said every safety change which had an impact on the actual essence of these races is a huge let down. That Interstate 18 is such a clean historic ride. I love it. I love it when Kyle runs that thing too. The Candy Man’s Atlanta ride.

This sis the racing we need if they want to bring fans back and get some new younger 1’s. It’s so safe now that this plate racing should be back %💯. This is the best. When there’s a 1000 moves and everyone has a chance as long as they make the right moves.
