Thank you for this informative video. I followed it frame by frame several times. I figured out the O ring issue & I had success in loosening the frozen shift and actually got limited movement from the wiper. So not having full success, I took the motor unit to the auto store & purchased a refurbished one. The salesperson explained that the celluloid had probably gone bad. Now everything works great !

I came for the wiper issue, but experience with my last Expedition reminded me of the hatch issue right before you said something. There is a replacement fitting for the end that is metal and doesn't rot out like the original that is a permanent fix. May as well take care of that while you're in there.

Hi and Thank you for this video. Followed your instructions and was able to remove motor assembly, clean and lubricate shaft and contact points, re-install and everything works again. No problems except I forgot about tailgate being down when I tested and had a brief moment of disappointment until I remembered you saying tailgate MUST be DOWN for the wiper to work......thanks again once again on my 1988 Mountaineer wit 225K miles on it EVERYTHING works again.

If that wiper does not park correctly, the computer for the electrical system will stay on, the wiper motor will still be powered, and the battery will run down over night. I Pulled the fuse on mine, debating deleting the wiper when I repaint, but now it looks easy to fix. Thanks.

This is very helpful thank you. If anybody is wondering about a challenge I encountered, I hooked up the new motor before installing it to see if it would function. I did this while the door was open and I could never get the motor to work. Decided to partially install it but close the door and it suddenly worked. So it must have some type of mechanism that can sense when the doors open. Don’t assume you have a bad new part like I did.

AMAZING!!! It is curious that almost all the repairs you have done, are the same I have to make. SURE I am going to this next. I need my rear wiper. In summer and in the first weeks of August in Puerto Rico up to November because since June 1 to November 30 are the months of storms and it rains a lot!! Keep the good content!! I LOVE THE CHANNEL!! :)

Thank you for the positive comment, it is much appreciated. Replacing the shocks is next on my list. I have a set, but haven't found the time to install them yet.

I started to re assemble everything as shown on the video. Then you mentioned an O ring which I found but not sure what it came off of, was it the shift? If so does it go on prior to fitting back into the housing then replace the black cover?

I did as you said and it works until I put that plastic cover back on , and then it stopped moving...however it makes noise as if it wants to move move , but like something is preventing it

Thanks for the very helpful videos on my 1997 1st Gen. Ford Expedition. I have a question. How do you make the wiper "HOME?" After you put it all back together. How do you make the wiper motor seek its new wiping sweep and rest locations? Thanks.

Can you do a video on how to repair the rear side vent motors? I don't use mine because they get stuck open almost every time i use them. Also, a repair video for the rear defroster would be nice too!

Great video. I was wondering what specific material did you use for this job? Thank you in advance.

I used just some standard grease that I had around, but white lithium or graphite grease might be a better choice.

So the only repair needed is to grease that shaft correct ? Thanks

Clean out the old grease and re-grease it. In some cases the motor may need to be replaced.

What would you suggest for a rear wiper that won't turn off when the car is running? I have to pop the window to make it stop anytime I go anywhere so it does respond to that.

I have done everything you showed in the video. After putting it back together the wiper runs without the blade on. When I put the blade on and turn it on it won’t run unless I kinda pull on the blade itself then it takes off. But then when you turn wiper and motor off and start it back up you have to pull a little bit to get it going again. Any thoughts on what might be wrong? Thanks.

Yes it was a repair, but pretty much the same steps for replacing, except no need to disassemble the motor assembly.

Question: mine turns to the left good (with force) but back to the right it's like it has no force at all and it has to be helped to come back. What could it be?

Either cleaned like in the video or a new motor would be my guess.

How can I find the rear gaskets for the hole where the rear wiper comes out?

Probably a Ford dealer item or get some gasket material and cut your own.
