I'm having the same issue with my 1999 nissan maxima. I replaced the plugs and coils from Advance Auto, cleared the codes and then the ignition code came up. It's sitting at the mechanics shop now with the wiring harness open and all the wires layed out. I just called and told him to wrap it back up and I am coming to get the car. Called Advance and they agreed to take the coils back even though they are OM parts in a different box. I was aware of the bulletin, but the nissan mechanic didn't say anything about the coils not being nissan coils, just that it had to be a wiring harness. replacing the harness would have cost me over 2200.00 that I do not have and I only need this vehicle to pass inspection. It's a money game and really dispicable. Thank you for your video, wish I had seen it 600 dollars ago.

It could be a burnt wire in the wire harness if p1320 does not go away after changing coils (oem or aftermarket) as well as ignition condensor. Nissan dealership certainly will ASSume if new plugs and new coils don’t work to then check wire harness as being a new car and they want to charge the same as a down payment for newer car.

yes, originally I scanned it and I got a code for one misfire and replaced it with a OEM coil pack from Nissan and tested all of them and every one read 1.5 ohms. the only other codes were a knock sensor and 1320. the coil pack I replaced was 0.98 ohms. also tested voltage at the coil pack plugin. all read 12 volts except one was 11.98 which I didn't think it would matter but that being the closets one to the ingnition coil condenser made me suspect that and looking at the condenser coil has a hard black substance coming put of it.

Hey Jim, Had a misfire code on CYL 1, P0301, on my GF's 2000 Infiniti I30 with ~200K miles. Pulled the pretty bezel and found that the front three coils were not even bolted down...UGH! CYL 1 coil was even detached and flopped over. Figured it would be a super easy fix, so I went ahead and replaced all 6 "aftermarket" coils and NGK stock spec plugs gapped correctly and tossed all the OEM coils...OOPS! Now getting P1320! Car runs way better...perfect...with no misfire. Did some more research and found the ignition condenser could be bad. Checked the service manual, located it, and got my multi-meter out, tested it per the factory service manual. It should read 1+ mega Ohm. I'm getting no resistance, so I believe that is my issue. It appears to be ~$10 part from ebay or even the stealership...believe it or not! Gonna pick one up tomorrow and see if it fixes it. I'll report back tomorrow if I have time to throw it in. Should only take me a few seconds to do so. WISH ME LUCK! Regards Garage Warrior

jimthecarguy Sorry for the delay in my response. I wanted to give you an update. I got the ignition condenser installed, which only took 10 minutes, but unfortunately it didn't solve the problem. :( Ended up going to a pull-n-save today and pulled some coils off of a 2000 Maxima for $6 a piece, through them in today, problem solved! Going to try and send back the aftermarket coils. On a side note, I found a guy that said the Echlin coils from NAPA are Japanese and work as an aftermarket replacement. He went on to mention that they are the actual ones Nissan uses, but are re-branded. I went by NAPA today and they didn't have all six in stock, so that is why I just went to a junk yard. Also, the guy at NAPA said the DENSO coils work too. Hope this helps a little. Good Luck!!

Great info Jim- I work part time at my friends auto parts store and I found your coil question very interesting. We do not sell any OEM just aftermarket. For coils we sell Standard Bluestreak. I have sold many coils for nissans and haven't heard of any problems. Most of the customers are DIY that walk in, haven't had any negative feedback yet. This does seem strange to me- what brand are you using ?

Hi Steve actually the coils I used was Standard and Napa.Both of them set the P1320 .I've had this problem for years with Nissan and infinity.Don't know for sure why but tried other brands also it seams like the dealer coil was the only way to resolve the P1320. Put in the dealer coil and perfect Jim

When we sell anything electronic it's no return except for warranty. What does your parts guy say when you return the coil ? The next time the standard salesperson comes in I'm going to ask about this. Have to wonder who is buying coils that don't work, figure the coil maker would be out of business by now. Maybe Eric at south main auto will have some experience with this as well.

how does the plug look for cyl 2? maybe it has a problem with secondary system causing a primary voltage condition which the pcm doesnt like. from my knowledge coils tend to go bad if the plugs are over due, which takes out the coils then eventually the coil driver in the pcm.

@jimthecarguy Hi Jim, I have a 1997 Maxima 275k miles and it suddenly started running rough, stumbling/knocking when first accelerating, lacks power (feels similar to a restricted cat/dead miss) It smooths out a little and will eventually get up to speed but drinks gas of course and runs poorly. Hasn't overheated, no smoke from exhaust. Codes are P1320 primary ign signal, P0325 Knock Sensor Ckt 1 Bnk 1, and P1400 EGR ckt low input. I'm thinking it could be a bad knock sensor which is retarding the timing because it feels worse than a coil to me and there were no specific cylinder misfire codes. Would you typically get a specific misfire code if it were a coil? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I have replaced it with a part from AutoZone it seems to be running perfectly fine except for the code. My question is, is it OK to operate the vehicle with this code on? Or will it cause any harm to the vehicles ecm or electrical system?

@jimthecarguy
9 жыл бұрын
+Maxwell Peart Did you have the P01130 before you replaced the coils.If not you may have knocked off something.This is what a swirl valve does. This system has a swirl control valve in the intake passage of each cylinder. While idling and during low engine speed operation, the swirl control valve closes. Thus the velocity of the air in the intake passage increases, promoting the vaporization of the fuel and producing a swirl in the combustion chamber. Because of this operation, this system tends to increase the burning speed of the gas mixture, improve fuel consumption, and increase the stability in running conditions. Also, except when idling and during low engine speed operation, this system opens the swirl control valve. In this condition, this system tends to increase power by improving intake efficiency via reduction of intake flow resistance, intake flow. The solenoid valve controls swirl control valve's shut/open condition. This solenoid valve is operated by the ECM. When engine coolant temperature is below 10°C (50°F) and above 55°C (131°F) , swirl control valve is kept open regardless of above condition
