Happy 321a day! This was filmed back on August 20th, 2018. Also I’m basically whispering because I filmed this at damn near midnight, with a hotel full of people, just FYI.
So we’ve got a very early Schindler HT install here! All the way back from June of 1998. So back when this thing was original, before the high pitched chimes were installed, we know it would have had the original lower pitched chimes, found on the elevator at the Macy’s in Carle Place, Long Island, NY. Shame we don’t get to hear em! But what can ya do.
I go over some specs in the video, but to write it all out, off the top of my head, this elevator qualifies for being a 321a based off of the following specs:
• November 1997 - March 2001 install date
• Serves between 2-4 floors
• Only 2100 or 2500 lb capacity
• Single slide, single door (no rear door)
• Thick COP wall (Single jack Holeless Hydraulic behind it)
• HT Standard fixtures (no premium)
• Old, Small font on the capacity plate
And some good characteristics that aren’t per-say specific to 321as, but give off a good indicator that you’re riding an early/old Schindler:
• That ole squeaky and loud door operator
• That loud fan with the exact same pitch as every old Schindler
• Sideways Schindler sticker on the indicator (removed on newer installations)
• Schindler logo on the call station
So there you have it! Schindler 321as are my favorite brand and model of elevator, and a rare edition in this good of condition no doubt is one of my favorite finds, and favorite elevators of all time! Happy 321a day and enjoy!
