Just did a valve cover job on an 05 4.2 I was shocked that they were plastic. Much like the intake. But the truck I am working on has a coolant leak. This video has been very helpful. Thank you for the post.

seems to be fine. even this long .I recommend a good epoxy. that's what will ensure that the new part will stay.

I have a 2000 F150 4.2 with a leaky PCV tube - This video helped a lot with visualizing what's under the upper intake. I'll prolly replace that tube just for preventative measure! Thanks very much for posting! btw, Vid was not rambling. You did fine so I sub'd!

If I remember correctly the v8 has one at the passenger rear, and one the runs under the intake into the backside of the water pump. The intake will have to come off for both. They are both available on rock auto under the "heating and air conditioning" - heater hose/ pipe. about 20 apiece. You can use the same cutting and epoxy procedure for the one on the intake, The one in the valley just slides over a piece near the water pump and a bolt holds it. If the piece going into the water pump is bad you will have to get creative. I hope this helps. Better change those heater hoses too.

Can the bypass tube be changed without pulling the lower manifold? I have a 2002 with 66k miles but it's leaking around the tube.

I am not sure about the straight one. The only way I see it is with a complete intake. Maybe get the Motorcraft km4528 and just cut it so it's straight. It appears to be the same diameter were it goes into intake.

03 E150 work van. Mine seems to have rusted all the way thru, and someone (?) at some point (?) shoved the pipe down into the part that's stuck in the intake. Now I need to get that little bastard out.

Same thing happened to my 98 4.2l. I couldn't pull the broken part of the bypass pipe that had fallen into the intake. I relaized that if I removed the thermostat I could easily reach in a remove the broken piece.

HI Kevin, on the rear of the manifold, those white clips you spoke of, what is that device for?, is that part of the egr? or something else, thanks

The clips hold the linkage that opens butterfly valves in the intake. They are connected to an actuator motor.

It allows the engine to use two different length intake runners to allow better driveability at low speeds and at high speeds.

It's called an IMRC or Intake Manifold Runner Control. The White Clips are the IMRC bushings. THE IMRC controls air flow to the cylinder head allowing an Air Charge to flow to the runner at specific moments. Like the guy said above it basically controls one long rod that has "butterflies" or valves on them.
