That 1999 team was better than the one that went to the WS in 2000.

Better rotation in 2000, but yeah, the '99 lineup and defense were insane, impossible to replicate. Bullpen might've been better all around, too.

Think of the fact that Octavio Dotel would be a trusted high leverage reliever for over a decade, and Bobby V went w Kenny Rogers. Benitez was even more at fault.

100 💯 agree with u. I was 15 and listening to the game at work and went nuts when I heard it was gone. So happy for Todd. He had a good moment. Yes the teams was very good. Dam the Braves and the Mets bullpen. I honestly felt we would’ve beat the Yankees

The last two years in 1998 and 1999, Steve Finley let a home run go over the centerfield fence: 1998 WS Game 3 from Scott Brosius and 1999 NLDS Game 4 from Todd Pratt.

I had been listening to WFAN who at the time was giving away Mets and Yankees tickets since both were in the playoffs. One day Mets tickets, the next day Yankees. I had been calling for the past few days regardless of what tickets they were giving away. One day when they were giving away Yankees playoff tickets, I placed what was probably my 50th call of the day, and someone finally picks up the phone. Now one would think that the person working at WFAN studios would answer the phone using the call letters of the station, right? Wrong. Dude answers with "Hello?". I'm confused, so I ask if this is WFAN. He says, "yeah". He answers with a "YEAH"! Like pulling teeth. So I ask if this is the "Box Office Blitz", and he says "yes". Then I ask the logical follow up question of, did I win?? And he responds with, "Oh yeah, but they're Mets tickets not Yankees. Do you mind?" DO I MIND?? LOL! I'm a Mets fan! Of course I don't mind! So I have to go down to Astoria in order to pick up the tickets from their studio, and the next day my father and I go to the game. Mets are ahead in the series 2 games to 1, but tied in this game 3-3 going into the bottom of the 10th. Todd "Tank" Pratt comes to the plate and my father looks at me and says, "this guy is gonna hit a home run". I'm like GTFO! This guy hits a moon shot to dead center and Finley has a beat on it. Deepest part of the park. Most difficult part of the park to hit a dinger. Finley is an outstanding fielder. It's so close, and nobody in the stadium can get a solid look at the play. It's just too far away. What we do know is that the ball is right at the top of the wall, and Finley barely has to leap in order to make the grab. When Finley comes back down, there isn't a soul in the park that thinks it's a home run. Everybody thinks he caught it. I know it sounds loud in the video, like the fans yelling never stops. But if you listen closely, it tails off when Finley jumps, and only picks back up when he looks at his empty glove in disgust. It was one of the most surreal moments I have ever experienced in my life. From winning these improbable tickets, to having my father call the game and series clinching homer, to thinking for a second that Finley may have actually caught that ball until quickly realizing that he didn't, and the game (and series) was won! Just an amazing game, and an amazing experience.

Was drivin a cab in Strong Island NY omw to LGA Airport at this moment with a fellow NY Mets hardcore fanatic in my backseat we r in decent flow of traffic about 10 mins from Airport if i remember my route there correctly I'm at the end of the GCParkway about to jump onto offramp to entrance. Van Wyck to offramp for JFK Airport and Cross Island Pkway to GCP then offramp...for some reason I'm thinking Whitestone lol sorry it's been a minute and i forget lil things alot these days. Can do it with eyes closed BUT to recite it back verbally I'm doodoo n believe it or not I'm a writer lol. Dont judge me from this please lol my synonyms is wat is taking a huge hit just too many rounds in the ring PLUS the drugs n alcohol stupidity ANYWAYS lol, the cars to my left and right must have been locked into Cohen and WFAN as we were bc wen he hit it the call was electric n we all celebrated honkin n such..never forget that...such a NYC typical moment...strangers then sports moments brings us together...she might be a mess rite now but wen shes on point and electric especially wen its sports related, my city is #1 worldwide n that comes from an Ex Marine and visitor of over 15 different countries. Spain and Futbol comes close and Argentina during Messi's 1 cup win was collassal but NYC wen its the Mets Knicks Yanks is beautiful. Btw, 1 yr later i met Bobby V at LGA while he was droppin off his wife in a rent a car from the Mets sponsor lol shook hands n told him Gotta beat the Stanks he laughed n said we will give it a go.
