My friend Chris recently shared with me how much he missed playing turn-of-the-millennium PC gaming classics like Deus Ex and Max Payne on the Windows ME machine he purchased on Black Friday back in the year 2000. In this video, I use E-Waste and cheap eBay parts to cobble together a PC that'll provide an authentic experience for the titles Chris so enjoyed two decades ago. Can something running Windows ME legitimately be considered a gift? Will the power supply found by the side of the road burst into flames while running 3D Mark 2001SE? Let's find out!

Smug and Play is journeying through the Win9X era month-by-month, beginning in December of 1994 when PC Gamer Magazine released its first coverdisc. In each episode of our KZitem show and podcast we share our impressions of the demos on that month's CD-ROM as well as the technological advances and cultural shifts that enabled them - all with our trademark smugness.
