Welcome to the Brotherhood! And you’re hitting the ground running lol. I have both those pipes in my collection & every one of those blends. Elizabethan is a go to Vapor, Deluxe Navy is a standard, EMP is a great starter English & Steamworks really emphasizes stoved Virginias. Good on ya staying away from goopy arrows & learning what different leafs can do. And to answer your question, I smoke 4-10 bowls a day, do what you like 🤘🏻

4-10 bowls a day!?! 😮That's impressive. I'd be happy to be able to get 2-3 smokes daily with feeling like my taste buds have been singed off. I appreciate the confirmation of my initial purchases and can't wait to review all of them. Thanks for the support and have a terrific weekend. Cheers, Andy.

If you struggle with tonguebite I would recommend geting a pipe that can take a 9mm filter. It takes away a lot of the moisture and helps not getting tonguebite. I only use 9 mm filter pipes after trying out many different ones. Cheers.

You aren't the first to suggest that. I've got some ordered and I'm going to give it a try. I hope they help because I love smoking a pipe, but the tongue bite makes it hard to enjoy. Thanks for stopping by and for the suggestion. Hope to see you around. Cheers, Andy.

Savinelli 673 is a great pipe. If you are looking for another pipe I’d recommend a savinelli 320. It’s really good with English/balkan blends with the wider bowl. Also has thicker walls too.

I've really been liking the 673 so far. It just feels so good in the hand and has been smoking a bit cooler than my Bings. I appreciate the recommendation on the 320. I'll check that one out for sure. There are so many pipes that I want to get already and I've only been smoking for 1 week. This is not good, haha!

Hey! I don't think the tobacco changes much when in the sealed tins. What I can recomend is to wait three days after opening tin before you smoke it. Tje tobacco needs some air to gain it's full flavor. So when you watch reviews where people ooen a tin and smoke it right away it might not do the blends justice!
@Piper_Andy

That makes complete sense to me! As a whisky drinker, when opening a new bottle, the first couple of pours are usually closed off and less flavorful. You have to give it some time to breath before the bottle performs in the "money zone" as we call it. Thank you for the advice. I believe I will start doing that. Cheers!

Smoking frequency is a matter of personal preference. I might smoke 5 or 6 times a day or not at all for a week. If you have the time and are in the mood, that is the right time to consume your tobacco of choice. Tobacco suggestions Boswell's Northwoods, Christmas Cookie, and No Bite Delight. The 673ks Roma Lucite gained its notoriety in the ytpc from Matches860. He was a presenter that a 673 he called his Friday Savinelli.

five or six times a day!?! Wow, I don't think my tongue could handle that. I've noticed that if I smoke more than one bowl, my entire mouth is scratchy and dry. I've been swishing with biotene each day but that has only helped a little bit. Thank you for the suggestions, I will take a look at those that you mentioned. There are so many options that it's hard to know where to allocate your dollars. I've definite come across a couple of Matches860's videos through my research. It's been a great pipe for me so far right off the jump. I can see why he and many others like it so much. Thanks for your comment and for stopping by. Cheers, Andy.

@Piper_Andy The scratchy sensation I get occasionally, typically for me, smoking to hot will cause it and certain blends. I am still learning what blends and blend types are good for me. I've been at regular pipe smoking now for about 18 months. My 2 current go to blends are C&D Billy Budd and Orion's Arrow. For me both are smooth but a little high in Vitamin N.

@@HermitWays Figuring out the right cadence for each blend and pipe has been very challenging for me. Glad to know I made a decent choice with my second pipe. I actually just purchased a third pipe, but this one is an estate off of eBay. I'm going to be showing it off in an upcoming video so stay tuned! I'm hoping I like these, but if not, am completely fine jarring them up and putting them in a drawer for some time for to allow my palate to develop. What kind of blends would you recommend for a new smoker?
@jespiping
4 ай бұрын
@@Piper_Andy definitely jar them up if you don't care for them currently, I've gone back to even a couple months ago and like things I didn't initially. That goes for the adverse as well, some I liked before I don't like now. I'm new, but I wouldn't recommend heavy aromatics to beginners. Which was one thing that was recommended to me. I had no idea what I was doing and it was extremely frustrating. Knowing what I know now they were too wet, most had bite to me, and gave me a false sense of what a good tobacco was. EMP is a good beginner blend I think, as is Elizabethan. And those you got should be good as well. If I had to start over I'd get one tin of all the popular categories. Burley forward, VaPer, Virginia forward, Lakeland, etc. I'm not in a position quite yet to start recommending pipe tobacco to folks who have never smoked them, I can only tell people what I like the taste of. And probably help them with the smoking technique and process. Basically talk about all the things I did wrong haha! I will say, I haven't had a blend from Sillem's yet I didn't enjoy immensely. 😊
@Piper_Andy

I knew right away that aromatics were not going to be my thing. I come from cigars and anything that has added flavoring is looked down on because it's usually inferior tobacco that is sprayed with chemicals to make them more palatable. I want as close to a pure tobacco experience as I can get. Thanks for your suggestions. I'm starting to learn that I love VaPers. They have been my favorite so far. Granted, I've only had two, and one straight Virginia.
@jespiping

@@Piper_Andy that makes perfect sense, not being attracted to aromatic blends. You'll probably enjoy the cigar blends once you find a couple good ones. I enjoy an aromatic if it's done well, I have some excellent tasting favorites. I couldn't say what I like more, aros or English. But I've recently discovered the "crossover" blends and I think it's where I belong. Well, for now anyway. Ha! 😄

New pipe smoker here! I’ve learned that you don’t necessarily need a pipe for a lot of blends. A good corn cob is perfect if you’re sampling many blends. I’ve also learned to avoid a hot smoke or bowl is to “sip” the pipe. Smoke slow and enjoy. I’m still very green (3-4 months), so I’m not an expert. This is based on my experience so far! Cheers and happy smoking. 💨

Great points! I'm definitely planning to pick up some corn cobs for just that purpose. And yes, sipping is best I think. I've noticed I'm prone to getting some pretty bad tongue bite if I don't sip. Thanks for stopping by and for the comment. Hope to see you around! Cheers, Andy.

A lot of Virginias. Good tobaccos though. The tough bit is smoking them slow enough. It’s quite different than smoking a cigar. Small little sips is the trick, but it’s hard to get the moisture just right and the pack in your bowl just right so that the tobacco wants to slowly smolder. Takes practice! A burley based blend would be good at some point. And a Kentucky blend. I suggest amphora burley and amphora Kentucky as ones to just try. Enjoy!
@Piper_Andy

Thanks for the suggestions. I will add those to my ever expanding list of tobaccos to try. I'm finding that I really enjoy VaPers. But you're right, it's very hard to get the pack and moisture levels perfect. It takes a lot of attention and focus for me to have a good experience, but when I do, whoa boy is it worth it, very rewarding too. Fortunately, I'm a very slow smoker by nature, and that has been very helpful for me when smoking these Virginias. I find that it is taking me up to two hours to smoke a full bowl sometimes, which I'm very happy about. Cheers!

Hi Andy, the 673 was one of the first savinelli.pipes I bought along with the sturdy 320. The reason you'll see alot of those pipes being smoked by presenters there used to be a presenter who passes away a few years and that was his friday savinelli pipe. Getting to the overheating of your pipe if it gets to hot set it down for a moment and ease up on your draw. Good to hear you're a single malt scotch guy 👍 ps I also live by the buy 2 option.
