Technology to rebuild actual limbs with synthetic parts is better than installing motors and having a computer remote control it. The last thing anyone want is your arms going digital making it prone to be hijacked. If the brain is working then repairing the limbs so the brain control it is best. But fixing the brain brings the question of if you solely believe the tech won't be exploited to control.
@gaberyan6283
18 күн бұрын
@@dra6o0n Ultimately what will happen here is once the team at nuralink develops the ability to finely detect the neural activity of the brain in relation to the motions needed to drive bionic limbs in a normal human way, they will just cut off the old limbs and install bionic implants that sync with the nuralink. You won't ever be able to feel these implants and you wont feel like your moving, but you should be able to get full range of motion even as a quadriplegic like this guy. Thats one of the usecases for this type of technology in the future. What he is doing right now is helping nuralink build the software that will be used to make the robotic prosthetics useful, we already have 1 to 1 equivalent prosthetics we just need to build a software solution that is capable of adapting to each person and understanding neural intentions properly and consistently.

Sure, it’s a great breakthrough. My worry is that it’s a breakthrough done by a company owned by Elon Musk. What worries me is what will be done with the technology and the information it generates. This sort of breakthrough should be open source, it shouldn’t be restricted to one company and patented. Ever tried fixing a Tesla car without Tesla’s help? Both the physical hardware and software is pretty restricted- they don’t use standard bolt heads for example but their own design like Apple does with iPhone screws and bolts. Now imagine that sensibility applied to a technology that actively maps and reads a brain like this one seems too? I’ve got big brother meets Idiocracy vibes!

Are they not? Just asking because I have no idea about any of this. If it's a case of they're *not* supporting it, then that seems very strange to me. This is actually ground-breaking. Science-fiction-becoming-reality kind of stuff. This has the potential to help so many disadvantaged people.

@@jamesengland7461You can still not like either and think this is cool. I personally do not like Musk and Rogan, I would never be able to stomach spending time with them. But I am able to appreciate the Neuralink for the incredible feat that it is.

Great stuff! What's all the FUD out there atm, about Neuralink having found a problem with the implant? Any info about that would be nice, because I will be asked for sure by my surrounding people. Because I was the one pointing out to them, what Neuralink is all about 😅

I'm thinking Noland could be among the best FPS gamers in the world in a handful of years. No hand eye coordination required. He'll just be able to think, headshot, headshot, headshot as he sees each opponent and it's done. I know this is about the least useful task for this technology, but it just clicked for me that this is not just a workaround. This technology may very well be a lot better than the methods (keyboard, mouse, etc.) that able bodied people use. Crazy times we are living in.

Seeing this guy so happy, makes me really anxious about the point in time when this piece of tech needs to be replaced or physically updated. Right now it seems to be a rather invasive procedure, I would say it is probably akin to the removal of a tumor I had on my head 2 years ago. Man, I want this guy to be happy and healthy for as long as possible.

I have so many questions have you tried aim trainers? I can't even conceptualize it, Does it change your way of thinking or do you have any other sensory input, Could you say "feel a controller vibrate" or as far as "in head vr? Or is it more of an raw input to output HID?

What if they tried to implement "gyro" controls so you could "rotate" the controller. sorry for the quotations I don't how to say it properly, I assume your just imagining using the device, is this predicated upon prior experience with devices. I don't know your back story so I apologize if i misstep. Can you exceed physical abilities in any capacity ? Type with 20 fingers I guess, use 4 arms? Could you use a mouse and keyboard for firstperson games or are you limited in what you can do, I noticed your library was mostly Isometric/click games. I would suggest instead of a "bias" a "Lock/Unlock" cursor function where you can toggle the movement of the cursor/clicks. I'm drawing a lot of ideas from gyro to behonest, though I don't know how you interact with the device, I think i have an okay idea. Also what might help is some sort of overlay/window that shows the inputs that your doing in realtime, there are free options on steam that do this already, 3dcontroller overlay is free and there are options for mouse/keyboard. Do you have to toggle the keyboard on screen or is there a way you could use it with out having to see it? I am interested, if your able to, to see you play aim labs, monkeytype, tetris, any fps game, any third person game. I am deeply interested in watching your progress and I wish you the best of luck in your ventures. I imagine a point where you could be using a controller, a mouse , a keyboard, gyro, etc literally any combination of devices simultaneously, seamlessly and with any amount, or as many as you could conceive/manage/desire. I'm sure there has to be limitations and diminishing returns. it looks very good now but the process for adapting the controls to your biology seams to be lacking in precise controls and variables, such as acceleration (rawaccel), dpi, "weight"in grams I suppose this could translate to how much "effort" you exert with your "hand" they would have to measure at various "dpi" and for each dpi /weight/surface you would have to measure effort of input (I am making terms up as I go), Mouse surface (Cloth, Wood, Glass, Smooth) from 0 effort e.g stationary/standby to 1% effort then 0-2, 0-3, etc then I would test a steady swipe moving from one side of the screen to the other at least 2-4 times going from the slowest steady speed to your max speed what ever that might be, I imagine it's near instant to be honest I've done a of testing of various input devices, I've strapped a gyro to my headset and implemented a dual input method for aiming that I could tune to my desire via my actual mouse and then either my simulated mouse or my simulated joystick through gyro, I polled at 1000hz and felt no discernable input lag as far as I could tell and I would say that I am fairly attuned to input delays and variations. I tested the gyro by mapping it to a 6x sensitivity using Local space and shook my head in eccentric motions and it never desynced from what I was doing. You could do this now if you wanted to test it out with just a joycon and available settings in steam if you wanted to try it out, all you need is some neck/head mobility and I honestly do not know your limitations or capabilities and don't want to make any assumptions, My mother broke her neck and my friend was a quadriplegic growing up and I've had a few online friends as well face challenges with inputs, so I've put some effort of thought into this topic and if you could physically use the function of the gyro on head then you would get an exact realworld model based off of physical inputs that you could record and map then emulate. Now I've just had an Idea, You need to find your real world 1:1 ratio, if you can't use a physical device in any capacity then you could emulate ideally a ps5 controller because they have the best gyro I believe, I could be wrong. in gyro this would be done by rotating the controller on it's Yaw Axis, to be extremely precise this means with the controller level with the horizon and the thumbsticks facing up perfectly, rotated a full 360 degrees along the Yaw axis the real world correlates to a full and EXACT 360 along the X axis in game. This would be your Real World Sensitivity from there you can scale it off of that value to any value you like. Now once you've done that you can go to steam settings>Controller>Gyro>Enable>Gyro AS* your choice, you can Have it use As Mouse, As Joystick, As Gyro To Mouse [Beta] From there you will see Dot's Per 360 and Gyro Sensitivity. it is important that dot's per 360 correlate to a full and complete 360 in your game of choice. Sensitivity is where you can calibrate it to your hearts content. click on the cog once your general settings are set. inside you will see a plethora of various options deadZones, position settings, axis settings (x,y,z), you can map them to right or left stick, or mouse, Acceleration, Relation to space e.g Yaw, Roll, Local Space, Player Space, World Space, and Laser pointer. You can set the gyro to dampen when you pull the trigger, you can set a a toggle gyro on/off button forexample (right trigger) you can set up a desktop profile for when you are out of game. is the system wireless? If it is, is there a way or even a benefit to running it "hardwired", what's the input latency, what's is the systemwide latency? What other outside factors are affecting your control of devices, is there innate acceleration enabled on your system? Is it irrelevant and all bypassed by drivers or is it simulating a device and acting as a bridge between? Have you tried using a fully optimized gaming pc with minimum system latency? I noticed you were using a mac, have you tried operating systems windows, linux? As well as different builds such as intel and amd.
