As a foreigner, there's no worry to use Kuala Lumpur Subway as there are instructions in English. If you need any help, just ask the locals and they are willing to offer their helping hands. Yeah, using this subway is convenient, fast and cheap. I always used it whenever l'm in KL. Thank you very much for sharing this useful vlog. Have a wonderful day, Ken.

The metro line you ride in this video (LRT Kelana Jaya line) has a very short underground tunnel segment compared to other metro line, this is because the the porous limestone geographic structure beneath Kuala Lumpur making it very difficult and expensive for engineers to build underground tunnel inside KL city. If the construction team are not careful, the tunnels may collapse or sinkholes may appear in the middle of the city center during contruction. That's why the LRT line that were built in 1990s mostly comprised of above ground viaduct. Only the two MRT lines have longer underground tunnel segment due to the recent invention of a more modern tunnel boring machine by a German company.

For that particular line (Kelana Jaya line), most of it is above ground. It's underground when near the city centre. If you're gonna be here long term, maybe you can get a Touch'n'Go card instead. I can't verify this but it seems cheaper with a card than buying tokens. I once tried to buy a token to get rid of coins instead of using TnG card, and the fare was RM0.40 more expensive (i know i very cheapskate)

Underground only in the city centre because there is very limited space above ground. Tunneling is very expensive. Whether Light Rail Transit or Mass Rail Transit where it can be above ground, it is cheaper. Only the first "subway" the Ampang to Melati line is entirely above ground. All others have underground parts in the city centre. Even the London Underground is similar, outside of the city centre the line is above ground. If you do not go out of the station, you can travel above ground and see the neighbourhoods and the development along the route. It would help to have a local point out to you all the sights along the way. You could google and prepare the journey beforehand but a true local, born and bred could tell you stories that Google might not know to tell you. The Putra line travels to Subang Jaya and Puchong. The Kajang Line goes to Kajang, a town south of KL in the state of Selangor well know for its satay. Whether above or undergound, the LRT/MRT runs on double steel rails, not on a single concrete mono-rail. You should get a Rapid day pass or 3 day pass which will enable you to explore every stop with ease. The aerial views are totally different from the street level which you are familiar with. Happy travels.

This system is not bad at all, but there should be a faster way for regular commuters. Like, loading money onto a card and moving around until the money's finished without having to be using the machines and getting single tickets all the time .

Thanks. I struggled on my trip to figure out which line, which color, to take. I took the train from Butterworth to KL Sentral, then was trying to figure out which line went to the airport. There were different counters for different lines and after a few tries, found out only the purple line goes there. It would help to not have to know which line you need in advance m in order to purchase a ticket.

Actually it is so easy once you are in KL Sentral when you want to go to KLIA. Just follow the color line which will take you straight to KLIA. You can take ERL or MRT to the airport. The latter is much cheaper.

As a foreigner living in KLCC, I use it daily, convenient, efficient, affordable and you can get to almost anywhere in Greater KL. Having said that, it is friggin’ cold inside and it is indeed very noisy. But hey, it beats getting stuck in road traffic. 😂

It is less expensive to build "above the ground" in some areas than use all underground. The money can be saved and used it to extend the train route, I guess 😀😀😀

Malaysia truly adopt a certain Malay proverb "Malu Bertanya Sesat Jalan - (Shy to Ask and You Get lost)". even as a local LRT and Monorail to go to station that I've never been it's sometime confusing. BUT in singapore its WAY BETTER organized and I can feel the difference even on my first time using MRT. Malaysia need to learn more form the neighbor down under.
