Can you say how a visual impairment impacts on the practicalities of working on a ward. Thank you for a fascinating vlog.

Hi! As the Oxford course is almost entirely science based for the first three years, I haven’t experienced wards yet so sadly can’t answer your question! However, do check out this video of a friend of mine, who is deafblind and studying medicine at a university with a more integrated approach. kzitem.info/news/bejne/y4ib1p2tpox7fYI It may be able to offer a little more insight :)

What a great Video! Are you allowed to take Darby inside the labs or practicals ? Since I applied to Oxford, as a student, who is in need of my Service dog, I am quiet curious how the colleges handle these kind of situations. Thanks 🙏🏻

Hannah Goesch hi there! I don’t take Darby into labs as I feel it would be unsafe for her, so she waits in the office at the med school whilst I’m in practicals (she has a bed and toy and bowl in there!). In terms of college, Darby lives with me in my room in college as accommodating assistance dogs is a reasonable adjustment under the UK equality act 😊

Hi lovely! There is a huge support system for you at Oxford including the Disability Advisory Service. I can provide you with contact information of current Oxford medic who is visually impaired! She may be able to provide more specific insights.

Great vlog. Just wondering how long did that first walk to your lecture take. Seemed an eternity 😶

Hz 1 its about 10 minutes, depending on the pedestrian crossing lights! Hence why I only included it once in the video 😂

Oh my god! So many people would be jealous of you can keep a dog at university. I really miss my dog 😭

Lots of people say its lovely to have a dog around, as they can play with her (only when she’s not working!) as they miss their dogs at home. Some oxford colleges have college dogs that students may be able to walk, and the student union run a welfare dog walk once per week!

How often do you have ‘formal’? It looks really fancy
@oxvlog

That type of formal is Monday, Wednesday and Sunday nights. We can wear what we want but have to wear our gowns on top. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday is self-service dinner (just standard canteen set up). Self-service and formal are pretty much the same price which is good! Friday is guest night, which is super posh (have to be dressed up) and costs a lot more, so we don’t usually go to that unless its a special occasion. This is trinity, every college has a different arrangement 😊
