In May Gemma and I spent 2 1/2 days in Tromso, Norway. I was excited to go to the Arctic Circle. Living in Canada it is really expensive and mainly visited by a cruise. But in Norway, you can fly to Tromso. Tromso is on the coast, so although it is in the Arctic, it rarely goes below -5C. However, it stays cold longer, so even at the end of May it was only 5C and slushy rain and snow. We visited during the Midnight Sun, however, due to bad weather our Midnight Sun tour was cancelled and although there was daylight, there wasn't any sun. I would suggest visiting in June, as when I checked the temperature later it was 13C. But we were in the Arctic, so we made the most of it, bundled up in our winter gear and went exploring.
You can access almost everything in Tromso within a 10 minute walk. We visited the shops; did an Escape Room; went to the Troll Museum; ate arctic fish; watched the seals at Polaria and went up the mountain.
Although we didn't have the experience we were hoping for, we did have an authentic Arctic Experience. Cold and unpredictable. I would love to go back for either the Northern Lights or the Midnight Sun, but just plan my timing a bit better.
