i used do alot of V8 with a turbochargers and started breaking drivetrain parts...4 cylinders and turbochargers was alot more fun, easier, and made rebuilding alot quicker, less moving parts, easier diagnostics, with right combination will make any car or truck quick in the street...but do not expect too be the fastest in track. Nice!
@robertscraigslistemail9603
7 жыл бұрын
It's way more expensive to swap a V8 than turbo the existing 2.2L engine that's in the S10. I think it makes for a better daily driver also. My friends that have the V8 swap have ended up selling them and didn't ever drive them much just because of the little things like no AC (Florida), gauge issues, nose heavy on the steering etc. My S10 is not super fast, but does accelerate well once it's going and it sounds cool when the turbo spools up. The truck is light and handles well. As with the other posts, I get 30mpg making it not a biggie to drive anywhere in it. Back in the day we used to put 350's in Vega's but the best one was a buddy's that we put a mall 283 in it. The car was significantly lighter and drove infinitely better than all the other Vega's in the club. It wasn't the fastest, but he was in it every day and had a blast in it. If you want to build a V8, I suggest looking on CL for stalled S10 V8 swaps. There are always a couple posted on there. If you want a turbo 2.2L, they are not posted on CL, because all of us that have them, don't need to sell them, and probably don't ever want to.

@boosted_dime
2 жыл бұрын
@@waynejordan7473 Thank you! As for how direct it would be to boost, you’re looking at upgrading the fuel pump at a minimum. That involves dropping the tank or pulling the bed off. Then, depending on the kit you have, you may need to remove the A/C compressor to make room for the turbo and it’s components. Run oil lines from block to turbo and back to pan, coolant as well if your setup is water cooled. Find a mounting solution for an intercooler, and likely custom fabricate intercooler piping if your kit doesn’t have it or isn’t a direct bolt on setup. When it comes to tuning, it depends on the fuel you run. On e85, a target of around 11.5afr using a gasoline scale under higher boost and WOT.

The one thing nobody ever asks, are you still able to pass inspection, does the new setup thro a light for an emission issue since the original actual emission setup has been bypassed and changed? Because I can see on the manifold where the original manifold had two air ports that led to a hose that led to the smog pump. It's not there anymore. Is passing inspection an issue?
@boosted_dime
7 жыл бұрын
This particular truck never had AIR Injection. Everything is emissions compliant.
@Mr_Tecumseh
7 жыл бұрын
BoostedDime Oh sorry I thought it was outleast a 2001. Well anyway. Mine had tge secondary air inhection system with the smog pump. But I had two tests that were incomplete evaporative and secondary air. The evap finally competed after 3 months and I passed inspecion. Secondary air never did complete but it doesnt matter. Your allowed to have one emmision system incomplete and still pass in NJ and most places, so I finally passed. I do have one issue, it diesnt prevent me from passing inspection but it may affect my performance. If I drive my truck really fast or step on the pedal really hard. I get a lean condition. It comes up as system running to lean at high acceleration. It will tgrow the service engine light but as soon as I get back down to.lower speeds and no high accelerating the condition goes away and the light turns off by the time I turn the truck back on after that trip sometimes on the same trip after going slower the light turns vack off and the obd code vanishes everytime. Any idea whats causing my truck.to run lean at high acceleration P0171 Manufacture specific P0170.
@boosted_dime
7 жыл бұрын
Well, I think the trucks with AIR Injection were also flex fuel. My truck isn't flex. I still have all components as far as the EVAP system is concerned. In your case, I'd definitely check everywhere you can for vacuum leaks. That EVAP system and some other components stock on these trucks use those hard plastic little vacuum lines that snake around the intake manifold, and they're real brittle. I replaced everything I could with plain rubber vacuum line and then loomed it so it wouldn't rub around on anything.
@Mr_Tecumseh
7 жыл бұрын
Yea I have a flex fuel. If its a vacuum leak it must be tiny because it only happens when I accelerate hard. The condition doesnt exist show itself at average speeds. Only above 70 or if I put the pedal to the medal. I would have to have a smoke test done to even try to locate it. But its not worth spending the money because I passed inspection and I dont think its affecting performance. So I'm not worrying about it. Plus their may be more than on thing causing this. We thought if it was a vacuum leak it would be present all the time. But its not. These emission controls are far from perfect. I know what you mean about the thin line. Cheap junk. Ive changed it in a few spots but its all over the place. But it runs drives and Im emission compliant thats the important thing.

He did say it was custom, so if your serious, just get an extra manifold gasket and take it to a custom shop that welds, they can make anything you need. You will need to tell them specifics like which turbo mount and physical locations. For instance, it is for this type of turbo, it will go in an S10, it has to clear the steering, or provide the vehicle so they can do the fab.

clearly not the ebay kit (facepalm) the ebay kits dont even work on these trucks because the kits were designed for chevy cavaliers, the turbo manifold on those kits hits the steering system in an s10.

Racer 124 he said he's running mid 250hp on low boost. A stock 5speed for a 2.2 (the NV1500) is rated for up to 300hp im pretty sure... so there's a good chance that yeah it's stock transmission

Don't be afraid. Do your research, read and learn all you can about what you want to do and then do it. I was the same way, but I planned this build out for 4-5 years before I even bought a part for it.

Will the stock fuel pump hold up to 8-10psi w/ rc 750cc injectos on e85?
@boosted_dime
9 жыл бұрын
+bOOSTEDjOSH No sir! You'll either need to grab a good inline pump and ditch the stock in tank pump(I'm running an aeromotive a750) or find something that will drop in and fit in the stock bucket. I believe racetronix may offer a solution for this with a hotwire kit for in-tank if you don't like hearing fuel pump noise outside of the tank although mounted properly the noise is negligible for me.
@bOOSTEDjOSH

+BoostedDime Ahhh, well I may just tune with the RC 440's it has on now but on 91 or 93 octane. Then once built motor goes in upgrade to e85. Or is it worth the upgrade now?Update: Went ahead and order HFP 255 fuel pump.. Waiting a few more days to order injectors but will be tuning on e85.. stock motor turbo. The stock rail uses the bosch style injectors?
@boosted_dime
8 жыл бұрын
bOOSTEDjOSH Sounds like a better plan. e85 is definitely worth it especially for the detonation protection you'll get. Stock rail uses bosch style injectors with minitimer(ev1) plugs. These are what I'm running. www.racetronix.biz/itemdesc.asp?ic=FI114992&eq=&Tp=

+BoostedDime So those injectors don't use factory style plug? It has upgraded injectors already I guess I should check if the plugs have been upgraded already. Has the rc440s
@boosted_dime

+bOOSTEDjOSH They do use the factory style plug. Appears from a picture comparison that the rc440s use the same plug as well.

Stock ecu can be calibrated via HPTuners, yes! Though standalone for these trucks would be the best route.

The MAP sensor can't read boost and the computer can't be changed to read boost through the MAP sensor.
