I drive 30,000 miles a year I never had any carbon built up currently I have 137,000 miles now my mechanic showed me while I watched him do the carbon cleaning and it was clean lol I just used top tier fuel and some fuel injector cleaner I put In the fuel tank every oil change 7,000 miles

Mazda should've add oil catch can in their car instead. Aside from that, Mazda's cars are very reliable and one of the best cars i've ever driven. Edit: Mazda has undercarriage rust problem too but doesn't really affect the car, but i had mine sprayed with anti-rust coating just to be safe.

Same I undercoated mine. Actually I think Mazda Skyactiv engines since their inception has a built in air oil separator. I recalled seeing a documentary on it.
@arvin6606
2 жыл бұрын
@@Driver67 Yes Mazda does have oil separator in every engine they made, but it wasn't very effective and sometimes oil vapor went inside the intake and make carbon buildup. This wasn't really a problem for me because i regularly clean the intake with GDI spray cleaner every 6 months.

I have new mazda 3 with 2.5L is it ok to use top tier fuel for this engine 93 in USA or stick with 87 that mazda recommends?
@Driver67

Quality brand names like shell should be fine with 87 octane (US rating)

I know, old comment, but for such a high compression 13;1, I feel 93 works a lot better, especially in hot weather. I can feel the timing being pulled under hard acceleration to protect from detonation. You won't feel the accelerating G force from 2-3% gain in power from 93 octane in the Skyactiv-G 2.5 NA (AAA fuel testing showed 2-3% from the Miata 2.0), but you feel the timing not being pulled at high RPM. You'll notice the timing pulled at 4500 rpm all the way to redline, and sluggish take offs when the weather gets hot and AC is always on. Throttle response and down shifts seems a lot slower, and going up an incline requires a downshift. I ran two full tanks on Shell 93 to notice timing and response getting better, takes time for the ECU to self learn. 85-90deg weather with AC, passing 18 wheelers accelerating from 60 to 85mph is a lot smoother. I went back to 87 because 93 is $1.20-1.40 more per gallon, planning on going back to 93 on the next fill-up because the extensive AC usage. Now, is it worth the extra 10-13 bucks per fill-up? All depends on how you drive. Driving to church, 87. Frequent spirited driving with AC always on, 93. I wish 93 gave us more power, but due to the EPA, Mazda tuned it to save fuel instead of giving us more power from a 13:1 compression ratio.

GDI means this is useless for cleaning valves. If you do use something. Mazda recommends their deposit cleaner that you put in the fuel.
@Driver67

I doubt the deposit cleaner will go through the intake valves though. Whereas what I'm doing will have to go through the intake valves.
@JohnBoulding

The deposit cleaner atomizes in the combustion chambe, helping to reduce buildups. This is according to Mazda. Of course the only true way to clean the intake valves on a GDI engine is to walnut blast them. Seafoam and other types won't clean the valves completely as it is a very hard deposit.

You also risk damage to the main cat on the skyactive. It's a complex Atkinson cycle type engine. Only use what mazda recommends is the best advice.
