I don't think I'll wait until the oil life is mostly gone. I don't like the idea of the first oil an engine sees sitting in the engine for so long. I reset it and it never came back. I did screw up on a fuel filter change (did not tighten it all the way). One day on the way to work, the O-ring gave way. Luckily I noticed and just tightened it down.

Good video thanks. Only recommendation is i would change the filter first then drain the oil pan. It if is like the TDI engines, oil is held in the filter housing then spills down to the pan when you remove the filter. Allow you to get a small extra amount of used oil out. How do you like the truck? I was going to get the diesel, but I am currently leaning toward the new ranger. Seems new diesels have to much of a problem not with the engine, but with the fuel and exhaust system since they are so complicated.

Next time I change it I'll drain the oil, leave the plug out, then remove the filter and see if I get any more oil that drains into the pan. So far I like the truck and don't regret it at all. I have had one issue with one of the things you mentioned. I'm going to shoot a video about it soon. I'm just not impressed by the Ranger. 1 engine choice, 2 cab options, it just seems like Ford isn't really trying. When they go out of their way to bring up the fact that the Ranger has steel bumpers, I feel like they are really trying to make the truck sound impressive when in reality they are selling a truck in North America that has been on sale everywhere else since 2011. Take the full size trucks they are all aluminium now. I was hoping the ranger would get the same treatment but, nope. Make them out of steel because that's how this ranger has been made since 2011. Don't get me started on the other products. I have a video on this topic if you haven't seen it. I'm a Ford person at heart but, this direction they are headed frustrates me as a Ford guy. Thanks for watching and commenting.

@@mecalpsha4473 Pretty much every manufacturer is making direct injection turbo 4 cylinder, Chevrolet new Silverado and Honda CTV etc. Chain stretch is a problem with Chevrolet Colorado gas models with no turbo. Check out South main Auto video. Unfortunately new cars are so high tech and have problems that we consumers need to be prepared for. Buying a used vehicle in the future will be a nightmare. The problem with the diesel, which I love diesels, is the super high tech exhaust systems under the car. The exhaust system will cost you several thousand dollars to repair. I have an 04 tdi with over 350, 000 miles and not opened the engine except for timing belt. I guarantee the silverado can not go 100, 000 miles without some repair to engine or exhaust. A good oil filter will filter particles as small as 10 or 25 microns (.00039-.00098 inches) I'm not saying you're wrong for doing what you're doing and I totally see the logic. Dexos 2 approval isn't enough. This is a VM Motori engine that requires the ACEA C3 spec to keep within manufacturer warranty. Liqui-Moly is (I'm quite sure) the OEM oil, but AMS Oil European also has the proper spec. Be careful Mobil 1 and Castrol Edge fans, read the bottle and it tells you "not for diesel engines". I suspect Pennzoil says the same, even though they all have the Dexos 2 rating. It's all about the additives being compatible with high soot combustion byproducts. Just some facts for thought.
@RepairGeek

Dexos2 is GM's spec for diesel oil. My owner's manual specifically states if a Dexos2 oil is not available, to use ACEA C3. The dexos logo is trademarked so there may be oils on the market that meets the Dexos specification but, the manufacturer may not want to pay the licensing fee. My personal guess is dexos2 and C3 are the same specifications. One just has a trademark.

As long as it keeps running correctly the emissions will stay intact. As far as removing the filter first. I literally just finished my second oil change today. My oil has been changed about 2000 km ago at the Chevy dealership. I just checked my oil with the dipstick and its about one inch above the whole grid marks. What should I do? Thank you for this video. Love that you mention the dimension of the tools and the torque! Chevrolet Colorado Diesel Duramax 2017 with ZR2 sidebars :-0)

If it were mine, I'd just run it the way it is as long as it's running fine and find another dealer to change your oil. I only mention that stuff in the video because someone will ask about it later and I won't remember haha.

Pennzoil is the worst oil available. Use anything that meets dexos 2 but not pennzoil. Yikes!
