The Alhambra, Spain's crown jewel of Moorish architecture, is a complex of medieval and Renaissance residential palaces and courtyards wrapped within a fortress- a 13th century alcazaba. It is located to the west of Granada, Andalusia, Spain. The Alhambra (in Arabic, means Red Castle) became the royal residence and court of Granada in the mid-13th century after the establishment of the Nasrid Kingdom. It became a Christian court in 1492 when the Catholic Monarchs conquered Granada.
The Generalife (means 'garden of the architect') was the summer palace and country estate of the Nasrid rulers.
