Micro ATX is not budget. Actually it’s a luxury and the future of the PC industry. PCs will only become smaller and smaller overtime. It’s just a matter of time. Not everybody wants to have a huge box sitting on a desk or under these days. Plus, space becomes luxury these days as well. And I am an old dinosaur, I remember how it was back then and I support smaller PCs boxes.

@@ZXTech Excellent observation. Yes, Photography is definitely my great vocation, but I actually use the optical drives mainly for music. I just like using music CDs, both at home and in the vehicle. I live in a very remote part of the world, so long trips can mean many hours outside the range of radio stations and well away from cellular communications. Low tech solutions tend to be more reliable here, and perhaps that's why I like my music and data saved onto non-volatile physical media. :-)

What's with all the fucking "mATX is dead", or "mATX is for budget builds" I really don't get.. It's a more compact and efficient form factor than standard ATX with MUCH less fucking drawbacks than the Mini ITX.. (or DTX if that's even of any relevance ) AND it does not come with such a fucking price premium as either of the alternatives.. Not only, but there are stupid fucking ITX cases that are bigger than regular compact mATX ones.. and ATX ones that could fit a fucking airport inside. mATX is not going to compete with ATX at the extreme high end, that's a physical limitation if nothing else, but who the fuck needs the extra PREMIUM gimmicks that ATX can offer on top of it.. ? I mean, those are features for the niche, not for the masses.. and mATX fits straight fuck damn in the middle, right in the fucking sweet spot. Of course as a manufacturer of either type of hardware you' be pushing for selling less product for more money, but as a consumer, mATX is the best fucking middle ground, it's the optimal platform form factor. Yes, there is a niche for ITX and of course it's going to attract a lot of views, but that's all there is to it, it's an interesting platform to look at, NOT BUY INTO.. FFS.. Another thing.. Finding stupid excuses for not having REGULAR Type A USB PORTS on the FRONT PANEL (especially while almost ALL fucking motherboards have enough internal USB connectors as standard.. ) IS MORONIC!.. Anything under 4 Type A USB ports on a case is fucking retarded without a good reason (and no, USB water pumps and other random internal gimmicks that would use one do not count as valid reasons.. )

I don't understand how matx is not more popular for high-end builds. Most people use a gpu and that's it, with matx you still get a second pci slot for a sound card or whatever. Basically no trade off but the gain of a more compact case.

It helped me so much that you mentioned that the side panels are interchangeable! I really wanted the Meshify Mini with 2 solid side panels but they only offer it with tempered glass on the front. But now I can simply get the front solid side panel from the Define 7 as a spare part right?

I strongly recommend against the define 7 mini. The space between any decent PSU and the hard drive cage is much too tight and you will be bending your cables to uncomfortably sharp angles, and if you have a motherboard with a USB 3.2 gen 1 header facing the front of the case rather than the side, attempting to route the case cable though the rubber grommet will result in a cable that balloons excessively in the routing space, making it virtually impossible to get the back side panel on without kinking the cable. Additionally, removal of the hard drive cage (so you can actually get your PSU cables routing sanely) requires removal of the PSU, as well as disconnection of front panel headers (if you used the bottom grommet, which you would) because the cage needs to slide all the way though the case and out the back. Theoretically you can pop two plastic trap doors out of the case and lift the cage upwards, but that realistically requires removal of the bloody motherboard. And even if you manage to do that, you are left with nowhere to mount any drive larger than 5mm tall (ie, any HDD as opposed to SSD). I have bought many cases over the years and this is by far my worst purchase.

I have not used HDD nor SSD in years, so it will be perfect for me. I prefer a clean, small, uncluttered and cheap PC for like $1000.

great review and comparison of the two cases... is it me, or are there no cutouts at the bottom of either case, for connecting to the bottom headers on the motherboard? such as SB/Audio, etc? i know there's the longer opening to the right, but surely this would mean any connectors going to the far-left, would have to stretch all the way across? or am i missing something here, and it's not a problem. cheers!

Great review! Thank you. I am looking at the Meshify 2 Mini but wouldn't consider myself a budget builder. Putting a 7700X/RTX 4080 together right now. The cost of B650 motherboards are helping to steer me in the mATX direction, but I also enjoy exploring new form factors as well. Cost is a consideration, but not a critical driver.
