I am very thankful this Thanksgiving for so many things. My sister was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma stage 3 in June, but she is fighting hard to recover and we are praying for remission. My husband had a stroke in September and lost most of his sight, but he is also fighting hard to get stronger and adapt to his new world. This Thanksgiving falls on my son's 47th birthday, we lost him in 2013 to cardiac arrest, but I had 39 wonderful years with him. Sometimes it feels overwhelming, , but I'm still thankful for all my blessings and all the love I have experienced in my 70 years. Happy Thanksgiving to you and darling Desi!!!

If something makes you happy,do it. When i was a little girl , my father passed away. My mother became very depressed to the point where she could no longer work. We became homeless . I remember once strangers picked us up off the street and took us to their home. I had never seen a home like that. So beautiful. They had a little girl my age . They took me to her room to sleep. She had the most beautiful girls room i had ever seen. All 1960s white french provincial furniture, even a canopy bed. I was in awe. For many years after i would dream about that room. As an adult i got a good job and decided i was going to scope out yard sales and thrift shops and find that furniture and have the room i always wanted. It took a few years , but i found all the pieces. I decorated the room in beautiful florals and even found a matching vanity. I feel so blessed and so happy to have this room. And grateful. I decided to try to find that family that helped us with very little to go on, by a miracle i found the once little girl. I got to thank her for what her family did for us. I never forget her parents generosity every time i look at my room.

@@dish4675 I can answer for myself. I love the thrill of the hunt and owing treasures even if I don’t have room in my house or head to keep them forever. I take many boxes into the thrift store so sweet things can journey to another home. Every year I open collectible Christmas ornaments that folks bought and never used. I put them on a tree, get them in circulation then donate to a shelter or put in a gift basket so the can “live” 😁

A month after my mother died I spent Christmas on my own and indeed I made it my own. In the morning after the cats had opened their Christmas stockings 😸 I made a mimosa and had a breakfast of baguette French toast with Brie and cranberries. The table was set with my best china, crystal and silverware plus flowers and lit candles. I dressed in nice but comfy clothes and put a box of chocolates and a cheese plate on my coffee table and turned on the fireplace. For the rest of the day I watched movies and nibbled. Later in the day I put some hors d’oeuvres in the oven which I enjoyed with a glass of wine. I had a few phone calls that day but mostly I relaxed - and it turned out to be one of the best Christmases I’ve had. So decorate your home! Bring out your best dishes. Enjoy your favourite foods. It’s your Christmas!

Hi, Susan, I'm just now seeing this video from 3 years back, and I find it charming and comfortable. You do such beautiful work with your thrift shop finds and natural sense of style. I was wondering....someone once said we should have skirts on our beds because they make the room look warm and 'finished'. I know you're in your new cottage now, and your decorating just gets lovlier. Your music is AWESOME! The instrumental and the vocal. I really love your pep talks about being good to ourselves. Everything about your videos is so very helpful. I am 80 years old and still want to be a part of the glamorous life. All my best to you and your little fur baby in your life's journey.

My husband and I will be staying at home alone for the holidays. My children live about two hours away, but the guys all work in the public. My daughter works from home and homeschools my two grandchildren. We have only seen them once in person since last Thanksgiving. I miss them! But I can message and text and visit virtually by computer! I have decorated for Halloween, then Thanksgiving, and now getting ready to switch to Christmas! I enjoy making my home comfortable and cozy, much like you do! We will have a small thanksgiving dinner. I have a few little gifts for my husband for Christmas. We are newlyweds. We got married last Fall. This wasn’t the honeymoon year we had planned, but I am grateful for the time with him. We are both in our sixties and both have been widowed, losing our spouses to cancer. I am grateful everyday for our good health, our family, our home and this beautiful world we live in! Thank you for your lovely videos! Hi . Beautiful channel. Your place is artistically lovely and eclectic. I discovered thrift stores twenty years ago and got hooked. I wrote a book based on my passion for antiques and collectibles. A story about an obsessed thrift. Consignment store shopper . Fiction but relating to my own experiences. Its called "mrs. Clohiggledys clutter." Its on amazon. Hope you don't mind my mentioning it. It speaks to the original soul in all of us. Right now I'm decorating for Xmas with all the vintage pieces I've collected over the years from thrift store finds. Especially this year vintage and nostalgia seem to bring comfort. Happy creative Christmas! Geraldine

Susan I'm so happy that you're son and grandson are doing well. I cannot imagine what you felt not being there. I too got my sweet son back whole again after months of headaches and unbearable pressure turning to seizures all because a shunt in his head failed after 27 years of being there and several doctors refused to believe us that it was the cause of all the problems. God lead us to the right neurosurgeon and he's finally on the mend. Just watching him scarf down a pizza makes my heart swell. Isn't that crazy? When things got so desperate he couldn't eat anything for the pain, I could barely force down a tiny bowl of oatmeal, so now, lm cooking lots of things for Thanksgiving and I'm not even complaining that my neighbors who are coming over don't cook at all. I don't even care because I'm so thankful to have my precious son to cook for. I wish everyone could be with at least some friends for lunch or dinner if possible. Just for the afternoon or evening. You've done so much with your darling apartment Suze and I hope you can cook a nice meal with the new friend you made. And then we can all do whatever amount of Christmas decorating we do so we have plenty of time to enjoy it. I wish everyone a safe and warm Thanksgiving. And blessings of good health...🙏🦃❤️🌹

Susan, I am so happy to learn that your son and grandson are going to be ok. What a blessing. What a year!! It makes my heart happy to see you in your new place and how cozy and blessed it makes you feel. We are very similar. I am 60, have two grown (and wonderful ) sons, a grandson and live alone in a beautiful cozy condo with my little dog. Divorced/single. Have dated but find the older I become, the fussier I become about men. A man would have to be really extraordinary to bring me away from the quiet, cozy life of solitude I have created for myself. I am no longer “actively” looking. LOL. It is a beautiful thing that comes with age...recognizing your own self worth and self love. Right? I will also be alone for both Thanksgiving and Christmas due to the pandemic. But I too will decorate and reflect and listen to nostalgic Christmas music and remember how blessed I am. I wish we were neighbors. I know we would develop a great friendship and enjoy a tea or glass of Chardonnay. 😊. And I realize as I get older what an introvert I am and quietly reflective person. I too take great pleasure in the little things like reading by a window while snow flies ❄️ or listening to Joni Mitchell on a Sunday morning with a coffee and newspaper. So good to k ow a community of woman like us...single...grateful...strong...reflective...exists. Just wish we could all be neighbors for those times that I would like to share experiences or a laugh or even a girls night out. God bless you for being there every week. ❤️

Oh, Susan, I'm so very grateful your son and grandson have recovered from Covid! My heart dropped when you said covid and your loved ones in the same breath! The closest to home for me is my dearest friend (who is far more like my sister), her husband, son & d-i-l all have had covid & are still recovering. I did fear for her life, while she was in hospital, as well as her d-i-l's. They were critically ill! Dr. says it will take a month for her lungs to recover, as of last Wednesday. Praise God for His grace, loving kindness, and restorative healing! Thank you for sharing your new apartment with us, showing your new thrift discoveries, all so lovely:). I have two Cheri Blum pieces that I treasure, too ~ love her art! Like many others, I am so looking forward to your home decorated for Christmas! I know it will be beautifully inviting, just like you:). Your daybed is beautiful and furnished perfectly for your grandson:)!! Our grands bedroom is mainly an ocean blue blended to an aqua watery color for six grandsons! Now our seven week old granddaughter has arrived, so I may need to add just a skosh of pink, lol! I am so grateful we have all been spared from the virus. Kids and grands have been tested for work and/or surgeries, tests, etc. ~ All negative, praise God! My wish for the new year coming is that our nation would turn to Christ, acknowledging Him as Lord and Savior, King of Kings and Lord of lords. Sadly politics will never be able to legislate the sin problem in this world. Even so Lord Jesus come. What a day that will be:)!!! God bless you this day & would love you to give Desi a biscuit from moi:)!! Hugs, ~Susan

My desire for this Christmas is that my focus be on God and the birth of our Savior more than it has ever been. I think that this Christmas will be unlike any other many of us have experienced. So many of us will be alone or the gatherings will be smaller than perhaps we are used to. I believe that we can use that to an advantage, to spend time with God, thanking Him for our blessings. I know that many have lost friends and family since last Christmas and my heart goes out to all. Even still, we can perhaps find hope and love in our lives. Yes, things may be different but I will put up my tree with it's lights and give thanks for my almost 66 years of Christmas celebrations. Thanks Susan, for being a positive and uplifting presence and I do hope that we can all share thoughts in this group you have brought together. Wish I could come visit you and Desi and staying your music room on your cute daybed! My dream since a young girl was to be able to play the piano but never got the opportunity. I know it's never to late...I'm 68. Money is tight to buy a weighted keyboard to learn. I lost my wonderful husband 10 years ago today at noon time. My only wonderful son, myself and family surrounded his hospital bed to say good bye, I can't believe a decade ago today 😢 Jim fell to his death at only 55 years old...35 years of marriage over in 1 night. I'm doing OK though, I'm grateful I could stay in my house. I'm very optimistic. I lost my pretty girl, my English yellow Labrador January 8th of this year...my heart still aches for her but I'm getting closer to finding another. You set a good example when you lost Cooper and found Desi! I live alone, and like you, I make the best of it! I will be spending Thanksgiving alone also this year for the first time due to this awful Covid situation. We also will video chat. Going to put a turkey breast in the oven for the nice yummy aroma and turkey meat! I have Thanksgiving decorations up inside and out with garden turkey flag flying! Can't wait to start decorating inside and out for Christmas! Lol bought a new lights projector of falling snowflakes to add to my outdoor lights. Jim used to put all the lights on the house which I can't do, so I use my quick and easy outdoor projectors like Star Shower...EASY! My wish would be for everyone to see the world and each other thru the eyes of our dogs and all animals...for finally there would be world peace and kindness to all. I love you Susan! Happy healthy holiday's!🐶🙇🎅🎄🎵✌

My Christmas wish has already come true and that is that my husband and I get back together. We've been married for 43 years, he's 77 and I'm 62. We went our separate ways due to him having an affair that has now been over for a year. We will be moving next month (in time for Christmas) into a 2 bedroomed bungalow with an annex and 12 different types of fruit trees. It has an open fireplace which will be just wonderful for Christmas. God bless you and Dessi 💕

So chic and cozy. I feel like you could curl up in your butterfly chair with a great cup of coffee and a good book. So relaxing 😌. Desi eyeing those candies 🍬 was so funny. He is just tall enough to snatch a sweet treat. Just do not leave any chocolates in that bowl. The thrift store you go to has so many great finds. I would be in heaven searching through the hidden gems. When you walk away from your shopping you feel like you scored a treasured bargain. So much fun! Desi is so happy with all of his sleeping areas. He follows you from room to room and just snuggles in. He is the star of the show. Many blessings to you and Desi in your beautiful new home. You can tell you and Desi are so settled in and happy. Thank goodness your son and grandson are doing well. This is so tough with this covid and so many people still are not taking this seriously. My mask is part of my everyday look now. 😎💄❤️ Kathy 😷 My wishes are the health and safety of myself and my two brothers. Being the oldest I worry about both of them.

*November 23.2022* . I am so grateful to have come across this video today. I have hosted Thanksgiving for many years and was struggling to get into the holiday spirit. Last night, my hot water tank expired. I have purchased all the fixins' for the meal, but with no hot water and not having a dishwasher, I couldn't see it happening. Fortunately, my daughter lives 30 minutes away and is able to host. Cooking in her kitchen will be awkward, but we will make it work. My house is decorated in thrifted treasures too. I have not had the energy to paint my dark slate gray bedroom but I balanced it out with satin yellow drapes and a coordinating bedding set. I did a gallery wall of my favorite photos of my dogs, added feather boas to the lamp shades and plush fuzzy throws. That room will never be featured on A.D., but it's everything to me. I love your positive message and thank you for sharing your curated home.

Oh Susan, you're apartment is so pretty❣️💐 I love the addition of the daybed, it's definitely great for overnight guests, and for those special friends to lounge on when they listen to you play the piano and sing your beautiful music! You're so talented! One wish I have for this holiday season, is that people keep their animals inside warm and safe from the cold of winter. Too many dogs and cats are outdoors and it breaks my heart. Have a beautiful week Susan and Desi!! 🥰🥰

A BLESSED THANKSGIVING Susan and Desi. You give so much comfort and hope, after reading these LADIES trials. I feel like you are a healing balm to their soul. You fruit and strength from your own struggles. Mine, over 30 yrs. of fighting Lymmes disease, and after reading their words, mine seems so insignificant. You, truly are a gift, Susan. The two plates of the darling children, all wrapped up in their winter coats, are just precious. I'd seen them on PINTEREST, and just love the one ringing the door bell. Reminds me of my Norwegian Grammy, when she was little. She learned to ski before she could walk, and still skied till she was 90. What are the markers mark on the back of the plates, would love to find them on line. THANKS GOD BLESS

Thank you for the tour; loved it! I find i've had a very hard time, for quite awile, with seeing lots of items today that say "family" "love" "together" "gather". I lost my husband at 40 in '95 and my children were 12 and 13 then and are now grown and gone on their own. I have one granddaughter i raised the first year of her life and now that shes a teen and her parents divorced, i hardly see her. I can barely look at things with those sentiments as it brings to surface such lonliness and sadness and in truth is all gone with the wind. Know its wonderful for families and those with love to display these type items, but for me, it saddens me to know i once had everything and now its gone. I have a few pieces of my past around the house that bring comfort too, Unfortunately, most were damaged or lost by an intruder which means not all thoughts bring joy. Agree, raising children are the best years of ones life and would do it all again. Am thankful everyday for what i had and my life now, but if you have experience dealing with something like this, please pass that knowledge on this way. ♥️🙏 😉 🦃 HAPPY THANKSGIVING gobble...gobble...

Your apartment is gorgeous, thank you for sharing it with us all. I only found your site a few months ago, so that is one of a few good thing about 2020. I live in Ireland and we have been in lockdown twice this year for 6 weeks & limited shopping and meals out etc since March. I am 70 and my husband is the same, he had an operation cancelled because of covid, so can't get about much. We have had to change our whole lives, give up long walks, seeing family, holidays, shopping (which I love - charity shops most of all - they are what we call thrift shops here). I don't think we will see our son and grandson this Christmas unless things change, but I am determined to 'have' a Christmas. A Christmas when we live with gratitude, thinking of all those who have beaten covid and all those suffering with it now. Grace, thanks and gratitude are my sentiments this year, and the tree will go up early at the beginning of December, not Christmas Eve as usual. I will hang up every light I can find or buy online because the world needs all the light it can get right now, and I will drop in some bakes to the homeless hostel in town. My parents lived through the war with no big gifts, rationing of food and the ever present fear of the future aand of death. If they could do it, then so can we. I'm sure there will be some difficult, sad and lonely moments, however well meaning we all are, but we are in this together - all over the world the same is happening and that will unite us all in our own faiths and situations and I hope we can all light candles and remember that on Christmas Eve. Love and thoughts to you and Desi. xxx

(HUG) Your apartment is so beautiful, very welcoming. Thrift store shopping is the best, we get to look at treasured items from past times. When you go into places that everything is new from store there is a cold feeling, even though it is bright and light colored there is no warmth. Love your bedroom lamp the shade is a feast for the eyes. This reminds me of when you're in your 20's and girlfriends come over and you can't wait to show them your new treasures from the thrift store, and you dream together about how you each want to decorate. Life today is different tell - a vision has given us their vision that we can't afford, million-dollar homes, jags & Mercedes, even the shows tell of perfect families. I love your video and your gorgeous decorating; you make us feel right at home with you & Desi. You are such a beautiful kind spirit. We love you. Enjoy a peaceful time with your puppy, no rushing during December is a blessing.

You are the calm in the storm, I call my life. We are in full reno of our 100 year old home, as well as gardens. My mom would say, you can't see the forest for the trees. Its a big project, we've left it way too long . I'm not saying we haven't done maintenance, its time to upgrade and remodel. So its the whole place!!....you are like a refreshing summer rainfall in the desert. Thankyou so much. Christmas time I'm going to my eldest sons place , 1st time ever away in 35+ years at Christmas. It will be awesome. Well thats the plan. We are the lucky ones, covid in managed isolation only here, not in our part of the country. But who's to say it won't change? Only God knows our future, make the most of every day, live it to the fullest. But don't be silly, is my moto.

Your home is so beautiful and cozy! I love all your pictures but I really love how you placed everything, such a eye! I’m so glad your son and grandson survived COVID! My husband and I are also survivors. I prayed everyday that we didn’t catch it but I feel so very blessed that we did and the reason why is that we became sick when we happened to be on vacation in September at a beach house with our son, daughter-in-law and two small grandchildren. They were with us but yet didn’t catch it. I felt safe and secure that they were with us and took care of us. I was away from my elderly boss and co worker so they weren’t exposed to me. Even though we couldn’t go anywhere , we had the beautiful beach and ocean to look at. I’m not so scared of COVID as I was but still take every precaution to not ever catch it again. By the way, I’m one year older than you Susan. This is probably too much information 🤣 but just wanted you to know that our Lord takes care of us through it all.

Your apartment looks so beautiful. It's warm & comforting. I can just imagine you snuggling in your chair to read a book. Nothing wrong with sitting on your couch to watch TV. Life is too short not to enjoy all the good shows on TV. I love all the beautiful artwork on the walls. I don't have anything on the walls anymore. I miss having artwork. All the dusting got to be too much. I got rid of so many things. I've also been buying a few things lately. At Christmas I go all out with decorations. I love deer & have all kinds of Christmas deer. My girlfriend is always on the lookout for new Christmas decor. She came home last week with three flat wooden house & wooden trees from CVS or Walgreens. They are painted so pretty & have a little light in them. She bought two big bottle brush trees. We haven't even unpacked out big Rubbermaid containers of decor. Susan you should have let us know about your son & grandson. All the wonderful people here would have prayed for them. I just found out my cousin was admitted to the hospital with Covid, bronchitis & pneumonia. I'm so scared for him. He was a wife & a son. My wish this Thanksgiving is for people to be smart about Covid. Wear their masks, don't go in crowds & wash their hands. Also please stay home for the holidays. I know it's cruel but better to be alone this year & around next year. God bless you Susan. Much love, Lucy

My Christmas 🎄 wish is that if you know someone who is alone, especially an elder, that if you can't visit them, that you will make their Christmas brighter by spending time chatting with them. Ask them to tell you a story. Even if you've heard it 30,000 times before it will give them JOY to be able to tell it again. The best gift we can ever give (besides forGIVEness) is the gift of our presence. Blessings 💕
