It's a very good topic and an exposure to the foreign tourists. The price of land in Kampung Baru has increased significantly over the decades, making it one of the most expensive in the city. It's an area reserved for the Malay and ownership of land is solely for the Malay gazetted by law. If I'm not mistaken, it was British who initiated it for the Malay. Malaysian Government has yet to find a solution for the owners to create a new feasible studies for a new development for Kampung Baru. If not sooner, later in the future, this last village in KL will be developed according to the aspirations of the Malay in a city. By then, a museum of Kampung Baru is a must for the area. The opportunities for creating Malay food business must also be preserved in the village. How the Malaysian Government goimg to balance from the past and present into the future, I can only imagine the best for the Malay community in KL. 😀

About the more than 7 millions immigrants, legal especially the illegal, the Malaysian Government has done lots of efforts to send them back home where they belong and only retain the productive ones. Not only in KL,but all over Malaysia, you could see them as if they are a part of Malaysia. The foreign tourists simply cannot tell the difference between the locals and the illegal immigrants. Regretfully, some locals give them jobs without proper working permit. The Malaysian Government has to do a better job, not only at present time, but in the near future. So far from videos, I've not seen many immigrants in Kampung Baru, except in Wanjo, where few workers proudly claimed that there are from Indonesia, the middle eastern guys that sell baklava and kunefe by the street. But the most illegal immigrants are at the Chow Kit wet market, either at the market itself or at the stalls near the market, many of them seemed to talk like a Malaysian, probably some of them are already married to the locals. If they bring their good culture into Malaysia, I guess it's alright, as long as they abide to.the local laws. When the Indonesian president came for an official visit to Malaysia few months ago, he even visited Chow Kit wet market, an all news photos showed the huge crowd of Indonesian that welcome him and wanted an up close and personal with their president. The Singapore authority seemed to handle foreign workers much, much better than Malaysia, it shouldn't be that way, Malaysia has enough work force to combat these unnecessary problems. 😀

@@azizahabdullah1143 Yes, Kampung Morten in Melaka is a fine example of a well preserved village in a city. The Malaysian government should do the same for Kampung Baru. It's obvious that some of the locals cannot maintain their house, old and weary wooden houses need constant care. Not only those houses need a new paint, the wooden structure and roof need lots of repair work. I can only imagine how beautiful the houses in Kampung Baru will look should they are properly maintained and preserved. Good to hear from you again Azizah. @@Yasin_Affandi Yes, the relevant authorities should pull up their socks. Some or perhaps most of these immigrants, especially pendatang haram, spoil malaysia's image as a clean & prosperous country. Interesting vlog, well done. There’s always discussion about Kampung Baru and of course also different opinions. Nostalgia and heritage in SE Asia is often being overruled by business economics and sooner or later Kampung Baru will be nothing but history. The only argument in favor if keeping this last kanpung as it is, is the fact that real estate still sees relatively low returns in Malaysia, compared to other SE Asian countries and (mega) cities. The property market here in KL has the lowest returns in the whole region. Even Dhaka has higher prices, than KL. Let alone Bangkok, Jakarta, Manila and of course Singapore. So as long as there is no real increase in prices, Kampung Baru may continue to exist.

Government should subsidize the repair and beautification of all the houses in Kg Baru. Currently Kg Baru is an eyesore.

Sebenarnya bisa dijadikan ikonik budaya melayu, india sama China saja punya ciri khas seperti little india dan China town, seharusnya orang melayu juga bisa, kalau perlu direnovasi menggunakan arsitektur melayu asli ❤

Kampung Baru has always been in the special place in the heart of old Malaysians. As told by my late grandfather every visits to Kuala Lumpur, the main destination is always Kampung Baru. He was a teacher and also active in social activities and political, Kampung Baru is not only for eating but also the meeting point in KL. For the new generation who grew up in a cozy and comfortable atmosphere, especially when the LRT rail system was already in place when they were born, Kampung Baru is just a food paradise.

To me, the KL administrator should manage Kampung Baru and upgrade the surrounding just like how the Melaka State Government had done for Kampung Morten in Melaka.

8:25 That doesn't seem right. In the middle of KL cheapest is probably around RM500,000 for less than 1000sqft. Condos around kg baru probably start from RM1 million and above.
