The young, Franco-Belgian cellist Camille Thomas presents the “Boléro” from “Introduction, Prière et Boléro” for Cello and Orchestra Op. 22 by Jacques Offenbach from her new album.
On her debut album on Deutsche Grammophon Camille Thomas upholds the French Romantic spirit in works by Camille Saint-Saëns and Jacques Offenbach. Much like Offenbach, Camille Thomas has a very close personal connection to both France and Germany, her career path being a mirror image of that of the composer, who travelled from Germany to Paris to study music. Camille Thomas moved from Paris to study music in Berlin. Accompanied on this album by the Orchestre National de Lille and conductor Alexandre Bloch, Thomas is fascinated by “the charms of youth” displayed by Offenbach and Saint-Saëns in their early cello works, which exploit the instrument’s full virtuosic and expressive potential.
“Young Soloist of the Year” by Paris Match 2016 and ECHO Klassik winner 2017.
