Thank you!! You just saved me a trip to the hardware store... mine were in the wall so space was limited, but with a little patience and careful sawing they popped right off!

Thank you! I was on the edge of insanity and moments away from ordering a ferrule pulling tool. Luckily, I stumbled upon your video and had a hacksaw available - the thing snapped off in less than 5 minutes. Thanks again!!

Thank you! I successfully removed 4 olives and old valve nuts on 2 radiators using method 1. Pipes were about 6 inches (15cm) long coming up from the floor close to the wall. However I held the pipe firmly and used a junior hacksaw to cut diagonally through the olives. As others have said take your time and cut carefully so you don't cut the pipe! 😁

The reviews for the Home Depot compression puller showcased on another video are terrible. So I did Way #1 on this video. (FYI: Mine was under a kitchen sink and I had plenty of room.) Used a hacksaw and a flathead screwdriver. Got it off in less than 2 minutes. Go slow. Don't saw all the way through. Just give yourself a groove to insert the flathead in to (like on a screw-head) and twist it like you're unscrewing a screw. Worked perfectly! Thanks for the tip!

Ivory Tower I bought the tool today and it was just as bad as the reviews say. Tried cutting the olive off with my rotozip instead and got three done in less time than it took to pull one with the tool.

An olive puller (for the old compression sleeve) is a better way to go, when available to you. The methods used here are for those situations where you don't have one handy. My gripe is using an adjustable wrench; I would suggest using either end of a combination wrench instead. That would prevent messing up the sleeve nut (which you may need to re-use). Although I have several adjustable wrenches myself, I dislike using them. They open up readily and can slip while removing fasteners, rounding the nut or bolt head.
@footlongburrito

Not that id ever use these methods im talking just about the adjustable wrench... the new Milwaukee wrenches don't open up after you set them, they have a patented mechanism that keeps it from opening, best adjustable wrenches ive ever seen

I've used #1 many times from under a sink with only 1.5 inches of pipe sticking out of the wall and it works great! You can also use a dremel tool to cut the groove which is easier in the tight space under the sink but it can be done with a small hand saw at an angle like in the video
@Sal112350

Thanks I just use no. 1 using dremel, it works. I think dremel, not hack saw is the best for tight space under the toilet.

To all those people moaning about these methods not working 1" from the wall... sure, method 2 would be a bit tough, but method 1 is fine. Just use a Dremel instead of a handsaw. Hell, even with a foot of pipe I'd use a Dremel. It cuts deep enough to split the olive in about a second or two.

I heard you can also use a short length of copper pipe as a spacer to pull it off with the existing valve. I’m thinking maybe 3/16 of an inch. Just long enough to where the threads will still engage with the nut.

those are literally the two most difficult methods (without using your teeth) usually the olive isn't on so tight and you can grab the olive with grips and spin it around and pull it off

What's the point of doing that if you can just get a new copper pipe which is relatively inexpensive? Generally olives need to be removed where replacing a pipe is not an option (e.g. pipe coming out of the floor to a stopcock or the electric shower plastic inlet fitting).
