Hay Jono how did you get to the level your at . I’ve gone back to doing art more like learning to drawi variety of things in hope that it mirror effect my tattoos what’s your art like ? Did you do the same or have you learnt to adapt to the tattoos as you go ?

I think the biggest factor that made me progress further was simply practicing. I never did art at school because the lessons bored me. I started drawing a few years before I started tattooing. I became quite good at pencil portraits and carried a lot of the theory over to tattooing with regards to shades and blends. The best advice I can give is to practice practice practice and then practice some more. That’s what I did. Thanks for watching! 😀

Hi jono I recently did a kanji tattoo on myself my mentor recommended I just use a curved mag as I wanted a brushed on effect but after performing it I feel going round it with a liner first would have been much better. What's your opinion. I think it's because even when I draw I'd always like to outline everything to get a solid shape locked in. I could have also then gone beyond my lines with the mag for the brush effect after. Hope this makes sense.

I think any tattoo that is meant to have an outline should be lined with a liner. As you say, to lock it in. Then brush with the mag from the line. Maybe your mentor is just showing you different techniques. The only time I wouldn’t use a liner would be in a realism piece. Then I’d just go straight in with a mag.
