TAKING APART:
It gets tricky.
So acquaint your self with the about 5 parts that come out when you disassemble so you can reassemble them in the same positions. Make notes on paper, use a marker to mark anything to remind you where it matches back up.
There is a plastic separator piece that slides into the contacts arms that can be confusing to position when assembling.
Use pliers to straighten the metal box locking small hook tabs-one tab is on the other side too.
Now half the metal box can be lifted off-pry apart, revealing the parts.
REPAIR WORN LIFT ARM TIPS:
Wet the worn out notched spots with a drop of super glue and then sprinkling the wet spot with baking soda, repeat till missing worn area is filled in with this super hard cake. Don’t fill much more than what was missing to preserve the original design action.
Worn contacts lift arms can’t lift up enough anymore to make the closed electric contact for their cycle functions so then the washer will not function in spots or function erratically.
PS My top loading whirlpool washer has plastic lift arm tips however this technique might just work for older style metal lift arms...
If any arms are not centered over its cam mountain, slightly push that center arm in the side ways direction needed.
CLEAN WORN CONTACT DISCS:
Use around 100 grit sand paper to lightly sand any metal electric contact disc that are corroded or electric arc burned by inserting an edge of the sand paper between the contact, pressing down on the arm and then pull the sand paper out to get a good conducting metal surface again.
If any contact disc pad are extremely burned away, and you find this is still causing a no continuity, to restore function you may have to use needle nose pliers to bend a bit of a sag in the opposing arm so the contacts are closer and so make a stronger contact when closed.
REASSEMBLE:
Slide the big cam wheel down into position, using a screw drive to move any arms out of the way.
Place the contacts lift arms on the cam and hold everything as you move the contacts base into its position which places some tension on the list arms.
Place the metal top back on and slowly work everything into position so it snaps back into place and bend the metal tabs to lock the metal.
After reassembly check for continuity with ohm meter and before sliding the plastic shield back into place, add a thin layer of grease or Vaseline to the timer cam mountains so the lift arms tips won’t wear out so fast again.
Reinstall the assembly into the washer panel.
Be sure to push the plug all the way.
Some new washers are affordable but some say they are very unreliable and expensive to fix and don’t aggressively clean as well..
