Ten Reloading tips for better accuracy: 1) Use quality virgin brass (Lapua, Peterson, Norma, Nozler) 2) Keep a record of each lot of cases... 3) Deburr and chamfer the flash hole inside each case for more consistent ignition 4) Uniform the primer pockets so they are square on edge for more consistent primer seating. Use a quality hand primer. 5) Use an expander mandrel instead of the die expander ball for more concentric necks 6) Turn necks for more consistent neck wall thickness and more consistent neck tension 7) Anneal brass after each firing for more consistent neck tension and longer case life 8) Seat bullets with a quality seater. A quality seater should 1) seat bullets so they are concentric, 2) seat bullets to a consistent depth, 3) seat bullets with a stem that is shaped in the ogive shape of the bullet and does not deform the bullet tip. 9) Use a chronograph with each shot during load development. 10) Use powders that are not as sensitive to temperature changes changing velocity. Do not store powders in powder dispenser, store them in their original container.

Most of the tips you gave have been tested by AB and others with larger sample sizes and no statistically significant difference shown … so … hmmm

Just to help you be more informed, the meplat is the technical term for the flat or open tip on the nose of a bullet. , the ogive is often used to describe the particular point on the bullet where the curve reaches full bullet diameter, in fact, the “ogive” properly refers to the entire curve of the bullet from the tip to the full- diameter straight section - the shank or bearing surface. The bearing surface is the part of the bullet that presses against the lands and grooves in the barrel for travel down the bore.

I use an old electric toothbrush. Seen the 6.5 guys do it. Really works great getting the powder to settle.

Why run at max capacity? Why not run where the extreme spread/standard deviation of muzzle velocity is minimum?

I was taught to start at a medium load and work your way up towards the maximum load, in groupings of ten. Checking the fired cases for overpressure signs after each group. Then "fine tuning" the load until the desired accuracy at the best velocity is achieved. Set your rifle and fine tune in tenths of a grain. 30.06, 300 Savage, 223 Rem, 222 Rem and 45.70. And yes, I rotate my cases during the seating process and weigh each powder charge for rifle. For the most part, the powder charge is right where the case widens out, about 90 to 95% of case capacity. It works for me.

@@RetrieverTrainingAlone There are those among us who believe that velocity is king, but it dose no good if one cannot keep the bullet on target. I've tried to explain this to a few of those zealots, to no avail.

A ultrasonic toot brush and a reddings competition die set also works

A Redding Competition Seater would negate the need to turn the cartridge multiple times. Also if you insist on turning something to improve concentricity, I’d recommend a Hornady L&L bushing so the case can stay seated and you can rotate the die without effecting the seating depth.

If turning the round in the shell holder gives a measurable benefit, you have a a problem with your press or your dies.

Downer, that’s what I thought to. Just becuz you have a Redding Comp Seater doesn’t mean they are all straight. I just “fixed ten out of a 50 round batch.” It does a good job but by no means is 100%

What keeps the powder from uncompressing during the handling of it after you tap it down? Like all the movement going out to the range, etc.
@firstthes2811

Nothing, unless the load is compressed and therefore the bottom of the bullet is touching the top of the powder keeping it in place. That's why he talks about using compressed loads.

Wrong. The error can only be in one direction because you're dealing with something round. Turn 180 not a bunch of 90's.

I have the hornady tool and sinclair concentricity guage. If a round reads zero or close, it may not on the sinclair tool. Which is right? I think the sinclair because it registers on the case walls instead of the case head and bullet tip. Just my observation.

Honestly I don’t have any experience with the Sinclair tool so I can not attest to which might be most accurate. From the sounds of your observation you might be correct. I believe the Hornady tool could be improved.

Complete crap
@firstthes2811

"complete" crap? That's a bit harsh. Could the same thing be accomplished in a simpler manner? I think so. I seat the bullet completely, turn the cartridge 180 degrees & seat again, & it does center it. As far as compressing the powder, I use a electric toothbrush against the neck/shoulder of the case. Does it make a difference? Yes. How much? Depends on how far he's shooting. But whatever the case, I appreciate the guy sharing the tips.
