Wow, that runs great. Now i know why some old people complain about back problems. They ride 2" tractions engines lol.

I have the same Minnie, built by my Father, took about 20 years work. I really wanted to know what the levers do, how you control speed etc, but not really shown on this. Anyway, great to see another one the same. Wayne in NZ.

Thanks for the comment. Looking fromnthr driving position the long lever on the right hand side of the footplate is the forward/reverse lever, mine only notched for forward. The one sticking up vertical and connected to a long rod which goes to the cylinder is the speed control or throttle. The last one which points back towards the driver is the gear change lever, and should have a pin to lock it in position. Hope this helps and if you want any more information I will try my best to answer. All the best to NZ from the UK.

Thank you for information. Long lever on left into cab, is water pump to keep level up in sight glass? Does your safety valve actuate automatically if pressure too high or is it manual only? There are a number of on /off valves on external lines; when are these open or shut.? Looking forward to getting mine running. Cheers. Wayne.

Thanks for that, it is a needle, but have tried screwing it all the way down and doesn't fill the boiler and tank level doesn't go down, why isn't it working?

Each engine has it's own foebles. I cannot give a definitive answer. Experiment and as long as there is no underlying problem with the engine you should find the best way to steam it.

As 11 months ago,"If you open the by pass valve, fill the tender, get some sort of pump to provide suction to the return pipe in the tender then you should be able to suck water through the pump, and so prime the pump. Alternatively if you remove the plug on top of the pump nearest the eccentric and turn the flywheel you should be able to prime the pump. Best do that cold if you are inexperienced." Pour cold water on it to keep it cool.

I would suggest that you join a model engineering club, Google will find a local one for you, because they will have experienced members who can inspect your engine and provide all the information to run your engine. As Minnie engines are very often built with unique modifications, as is mine, it is impossible to comment on specifics without physically seeing the engine. A member of a local model engineering club or society should have the experience to help.

@@riorcp9244 To be honest I only run my engines at home as I don't have the time to go to a club every week etc and there isn't any clubs very local to me so a bit of treck. Also I know how to run my engines it's just certain things I ask for advice on sometimes when a problem arrises. Don't worry I have a friend who builds his own 5 inch locos so he will be able to help. Thanks for your comments though

Thanks for your comment. It doesn't seem to pump as the copper pipes are hot not cold and the tender water never goes down. I bought the engine off soneone else and they had it as a display model and only run once for 5 mins so he didn't fill boiler, previous owner didn't steam it much but has been steamed.

So does this screw all the way down to fill the boiker?
@riorcp9244
7 жыл бұрын
If it's a needle valve then screw all the way down to fill boiler. You should then see no water returning to the water tank. If it's a by pass valve then these are normally 1/4 turn
@riorcp9244
7 жыл бұрын
If the by pass valve is turned all the way down you must not see water returning to the tender. If you do then by pass valve is probably faulty. If you have the valve fully open then you should see water returning to the tender. Otherwise pump is likely culprit. Did you machine pump to drawing
