I am a beginner and a ways off from doing two sided cutting. But when I get there I will use your video to help me. Thanks for making the video!

Hey Dave, Welcome into the wide world of CNC. Just came across your video on two sided cutting and really enjoyed how you showed it start to finish, I'm been doing cnc for about 3 years off and on and not done 2 sided yet, no reason to yet, but thought you did a great job here, so let me wish all the best in your journey, hope you get as much enjoyment from it as I do. Merry Christ as and Happy 2024.

Wow, I wish I'd seen this video a week ago, clear and straight to the point. I swear, some of the other channels would take 45 min to go over exactly the same information. Well done and thank you. I dove into the deep end a few days ago for my first two-sided job and managed to do both sides of a 3d model, basically a bottle split vertically into halves so that I could mill out the inside and outside then glue them together, I eventually got it but there were several speed bumps that I ran into, limiting planes are especially obscure and not very visible in Vectric's software. A quick video on all that would have saved me several fairly frustrating days of work. What double-sided tape do you recommend? I've been using two strips of painters tape and super glue, something I've seen on several other channels, it's effective but sometimes the glue seeps through the tape and I'd hate to risk that happening on a finished surface.

Wow, thank you so much! I've played with limiting planes a little, but so far it's mostly been guesswork and luck to get things to work how I want. I specifically use Spectape ST501. I've tried a few others and this is definitely my fave. No movement, no residue. Not cheap, but neither is a tape failure! Painters tape and SG work when I forget to order Spectape, but generally not worth the trouble, in my opinion. Good luck on your projects! Thanks for watching!

Trying that now. I have been STRUGGLING with two sided machining. I've used the 4 pins (symmetrical) and cut through once, then turned. But it would always mismatch by about 1/16" between two sides. I need a perfect match because I am milling parts. Will try your method now. hoping it works.

@@FineLineJoinery if you could make a video on hot to create a jig for two sided machining - it would be awesome. I always have either 6x6” or 4x6” precisely cut material. And I need to cut at scale. 100-200 a month. So three holes is a good solution but not scalable

Thanks for the video. So you zero xy at the center but really you just get it kind of close to the center of your stock as long as the part will still stay inside of the stock right?
@FineLineJoinery

That is correct. Note, however, that I changed my XY datum to the lower left corner when I started toolpathing, because that's how I will probe my material when setting up to mill. Just remember not to move any path vectors after copying them to the other side! Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

If possible it would help if you could show the screen better allowing us to see exactly what you are doing! Slow learner here so anything that can help would be appreciated. Thank you!

I'm sorry, not sure which screen you're referring to. If you could give me the time stamp for what was confusing, I'll try to explain better here. I'm pretty sure I showed all of the screen captures for both VCarve and GSender, but I may have sped them up too much. Did you try playing them back at a slower speed? I'm glad to help, if I can. Thanks for watching the video!

I would suggest not worrying about the perfect spoilboard yet. Just screw down a scrap of MDF big enough to do some learning projects on. Use some good double-stick tape to fasten your workpiece and you should be good to go. Follow along with the video and the 2-sided indexing should make a lot more sense. Thank you for watching and good luck on your journey!

@@FineLineJoinery hello again, ok I tested out a second project and I failed somewhere. my machine bed index holes didn't line up with the part. I copied it from the top as shown. Although I went back and made the diameter .05mm small for the spoilboard holes to make a really tight fit. BUT the holes appear to be off by a couple mm. All the top side machining looks great. I flipped it correctly too. LOL , i wonder if my spoilboard and maybe my material are slipping with the tape??

@@TinkerTechRC If you are using tape only, no clamps or screws, yeah, it could be that your material moved. I use SpecTape ST501 exclusively. It holds really well and is very thin. I've found that the thicker cloth tapes might hold well, but there is actually enough flex just in the tape material to allow a little movement. Could you have accidently "nudged" a hole or 2 when resizing? When you made the spoilboard holes smaller, did you make sure to have centers selected as the anchor and only do one at a time? If you resized them all at once, the anchor would be at the center of the group instead the center of each circle. That's all I can think of. When you figure it out, let me know what it was. Good Luck!

@@FineLineJoinery Thanks for the feedback, I ordered that tape! For the locate holes I copied the vector to the other side, then went to that side and selected them 1 at a time and change the dia. I'll try again with the new tape soon :) THX!!
