Old school carburetored 2 strokes is only way to go!! For me

I agree 1000%. The manufactures profit heavily off foolish buyers that waste money on 12,000 rpm hockey puck piston motors that are total junk. And then those wonderful junky TPI 2 stroke motors...!!! Don't get me started.. !!! CARBED 2 stroke are the epitome in reliability. Now air cooled 4 strokes are reliable so if you want a decent 4 stroke then stick with them.

@@carlatamanczyk3891 Haven't had a single issue with my 21 TPI 300. I know some have, but it is far from the norm with normal maintenance. It also works really well with elevation changes. Getting rid of the air forks is 1st. The spring and spring kit run 600s . The bladder kit is also mandatory because of the long rides. 15 minutes at Washougal is a piston thing. Desert woods rides go for hours at a time. A local shorty is 2 hours.

Came from cr 125 and then yz 250 two stroke. I have been riding a yz 450 f for 4 years now and I couldn't be happier. No more high side crashes on dry gnarly tracks due to powerband hit. So far my 450 has been cheaper to maintain all things considered. Don't know about higher revving 250 4 t's though. Got a magnetic sump plug and do oil filter checks after every ride to make sure to catch parts for wear. Two strokes very unpredictable and difficult to diagnose engine health due to naturally smoking of engines, having no oil filters, old crank seals leading to lean conditions and almost always ruined nikasil in barrels. So for me it's 450 4 stroke Thank you.

450 4 strokes rule motocross. The apex out acceleration is where 450s crush smokers. Off road however smokers are lighter, more maneuverable. The costs of maintenance is ridiculous. 450s never need anything and run on straight clear. 2 strokes require more expensive fuel and my 450 gets 35 mpg, my smokers half that. Ktm smokers practically fall apart when you split the cases. I like having both although I normally put more hours on a smoker. To be clear I go both ways! 2 strokes vs. 4 strokes? I say both! Sometimes I have to decide which bike to ride and I like having the choice. A few things I didn't anticipate is 1st bikes last longer and have never been cheaper in the long run, and ktm 2 strokes are designed to be overhauled with a 13mm boxend and a pair of vice grips. Grinning comes with winning, but 2 strokes leave a much bigger carbon footprint, which is far more important. I think it should be legal to dump the transmission fluid out of a 2 stroke directly on the ground anywhere in America! Especially in Morgan's parking lot!

This is a fun subject. 4-stroke is the new 2-stroke. More affordable, extremely reliable. The modern 250's have to be ridden to understand. I will never get back on a tpi made with china ktm. Tpi bikes are a hot mess of Chinese parts and pressure sensors. Rotella sucks!

@@Leick42 I went from a new 22 huskavarna tpi bike to a 22 yz250fx. I did have to make a few changes to make it comfortable for me up here in the rocky mountains. Suspension revalved, heavy GTYR fly wheel and a throttle cam that eliminates the on off feeling. I've got about 10 hours on the YZFX now, It's smoother, less fatiguing and faster everywhere than my state of the the art 2022 TE150I was. I immediately noticed the fx felt lighter once moving than the TE150I, It's way more flickable for some reason. Additional significant benefits, Much higher cruising speed so I can get to the BLM land without loading it into my truck. Gets what seems like almost twice the fuel economy. The yzfx lists weight wet and ready to ride, so ultimately not much heavier than the lightest TPI bikes. I would normally agree with Morgan about 4 stroke dirt bikes not sounding the best, but this 250FX rev's to the moon and sounds beautiful doing it, It's almost concerning how high this engine revs, but it always sounds great. Something else about the Yamaha is on rough terrain nothing rattles or shakes, it's well engineered. My huskavarna sounded like a K-mart mountain bike on the rough stuff.
