I have noticed this some milestones are met and exceeded while others take longer to happen. For instance our son was born with club feet and he was delayed when it came to walking and did not start until 16 months then just absolutely exploded in progression. Then it seemed like he was having difficulty learning names of different objects but again all of sudden whatever had to click clicked and I can teach him any new object and he will learn the name of it within 10 seconds and remember it. Speech is the one right now that is taking him longer than anything else he does say quite a few words but for whatever reason it always seems to be when he feels like it I am sure this is normal so I just encourage him to speak. You can't force a child to speak if they don't want to in fact I don't believe in forcing a child to do anything my philosophy is if something isn't working do something else or do it another way that always seems to work.

I think its more of a guideline for by the time they turn 3. Her kid definitely looks a few months older than my son who was 2 in December and my son can do 98% of everything she said in this video and knows all his body parts most shapes and the 9 main colours. Her son is a tad bit better at fine motor skills though. Some kids younger than my sin know the full alphabet. My son doesn't. So it really is just a guideline from 2 to by 3

@@meeds he is! He turned 3 in October and after that time he started at a developmental preschool half days for 5 days a week and then goes to daycare the other half. He gets speech and OT at school plus private speech and OT twice a week as well. Around Thanksgiving he started saying 3-4 word sentences and pointing 👍. At this point he uses sentences to say what he wants (I want milk, I want to go outside, I want to go walk), but isn’t yet conversational to where he’ll tell you things that happened at school or anything. But it’s huge progress to where we were a year ago with he was just learning to use single words to request.

Mrs. Kingpin it’s hard to tell and kids develop so differently. Kids who may seem advanced as toddlers can be struggling later on or be at an average level by the time they’re in middle school. Or they may continue to be advanced from the toddler stage to adulthood or up to some lower age. If a child struggle to do these standard things that’s something to pay attention to but the idea that a child has to be able to do the same things as the kids around them is unfair to do to a child because kids are individuals just like us adults and they are better at some things and need to practice at some or have reached their potential in some areas for that level of their age. So much comes in to play because one kid may be born early in a year and another late in the year (and we all know so much happens even in just one or two months for a child), so that’s another aspect why it’s important to not compare kids (even if they are born in the same month). If one looks at children growing up in abusive homes they can physically be ok but psychologically seem to struggle with basic things because they didn’t have adults to invest time with them so they didn’t develop different skills and their language level will often be at a lower level. Often these kids from abusive homes will be very timid or very ”energetic” (due to low self-esteem or trying to cope with big emotions no one taught them how to handle etc). It’s lovely to see videos such as this with a toddler who is happy and engaging and whose boundaries is respected (asking if they want to do different things and not having the child be met with disappointment if they say ”no”. Please don’t compare your child with other kids, but if you, like other parents may notice things meet them there so they can excel to the best of their ability. As a kid, adults considered me advanced and I started school one year early and skipped one grade, but around high school (even if I was he higher end at my class) I had reached a point where I had to work hard for my grades like all the other students at the higher end. The whole advanced is putting too much stress on parents and kids. 💛 Ps. I apologize in advance for any potential grammar/spelling errors, but English is my 3rd language.

Good day, My daughter is 2yrs11months, she started school on the 12th of January 2022 for a full 8 days until 21st Jan and got sick with flu for a week 24-28th Jan then she returned to school on the 31st January 2022. Today her teacher tells me she needs to see an OT just 10days into her whole school experience. Her message “Good afternoon. I trust you are all doing well🌸 I just want to give some feedback on Aurora. We didn’t speak up immediately because we knew that she’s never been in a school before, but we do feel like it’s appropriate to speak up about it now. She is really having a difficult time learning how to handle herself amongst so many friends in the class and on the playground. She often shows aggressive bahaviour and try’s to hurt them. When teachers speak to her about this behaviour she’ll growl at them and pull faces at them, and will even try to smack the teachers. Tash was in the class yesterday and experienced her in the same way. The kwanda kinetics lady was here today and she also have some concerns about her. We really do want to try and help her to get comfortable at school and in group situations, we can just seethat she is a real sweetheart and just needs a little bit of help. We would like suggest that you please take her to an Occupational Therapist for an assessment, and then we can all work together to help her. Tash recommends this OT, will send the details.🌸” What puzzles me is that she can count to 10, spot all most colours, she can name most animals and items in some of her books. She is able to listen to instructions of placing her dish in the wash basin after eating. She feeds herself and is able to wash her underwear. She is compassionate and does politely say sorry when wrong. Around her small cousin who she has met only 3 times, she feeds her and always try to give the baby a pacifier and would say “baby open your mouth”. To me she is 95% if not more within the milestones. Your response would be highly valuable

And you can't outright talk about it online as parents don't seem to likenit, it's fine for parents to celebrate kids doing things when it's around normal time, but if you have a kid that's ahead all of a sudden you are showing off. My daughter will be 2 at the end of the month, she speaks quite clearly, in sentences, can count to 10 organize things by colour, shape or size, she knows abc and the phonics sounds that corresponds with each one, even able to name some words starting with letters, my partner sits her at his PC he tells her what letters to press, space bar and enter and she does it without needing help now. She does stuff that shocks me and my partner all the time, yesterday she read the word dad with zero help, 2 days ago she had 3 toys 2 next to each other 1 apart with a gap, she pointed and said 2 and 1 that's 3, our jaws are still on the floor lol. The throwing a ball always makes me laugh, she could throw a ball and hit me with it before she was even walking 🤣

My 2 year old can count up to 100, say his ABC, he knows the sounds of his letter, read his books, parrot everything he hears, he knows the names of animals, he knows the names of body parts, he can sing songs, climbing up high, spell his name, write some letters and numbers, put his clothes on and take them off, feed himself. Omg the list goes on.

Very informative video, you sound like a subject matter expert. I have a 19 yr old and a 2.5 yr old so I’ve been out of the toddler game for awhile. He’s smart and seems to be on track, thank you. Do you have any potty training videos?? Lol

Hahaha! I did make a video on potty training (you can search “potty training” on my channel). I had a long a road with it and we are just crossing over to completion 😂 I will have to make an updated video to share the entire journey.

I'm looking at what my almost-3-yr-old should be starting to color with. He likes coloring and scribbling . Should we go with crayons or washable markers? He doesn't put things in his mouth anymore.

I have a 22 month old daughter who has recently started becoming very anxious. It can be from the sound of trucks, we can be walking outside and she will see people, other children at the playground. She will run to me, cling to my legs and ask to be hugged. Today at the zoo I had a staff member come and talk to me and she ran away and I found her shaking at the playground. It's kind of worrying me, I don't know if that is normal or not. Any ideas from fellow parents?

My son is also 22mos and he has had a few anxious moments resulting in shaking. (I am not an expert just a mom who has raised 4 kids). I have noticed that the second I pick him up and kiss him he calms down. I Think he is looking for reassurance that he is ok and that mommy is always going to be there. He is going through separation anxiety again with me only (not his dad). I have been told by outsiders that I am making a “mamas boy”. I hate that term!!! All babies need a bond with someone and usually that Someone is mom. I think your child is normal and just is looking for reassurance. Likely she will outgrow this. It may be an early sign of an anxious personality which isn’t so bad just keep in communication with the pediatrician.

@@cici736 Thank you for the reassuring message. It was something that scared me a lot and I didn't know how to respond to it initially. I almost went into a depression, but after spending some time alone writing down my thoughts and feelings, I was able to respond to her anxiety in more selfless, caring way. You are absolutely right that all children need love and affection, that is how you nurture a well adapted , self aware and prosperous child. You son is lucky to have such a caring mother.

Adam Khan I am also struggling to get my 2 year old to speak. Something that I have started to notice is that my 3 year old spends a lot of time speaking over him or speaking for him. I have started taking him into a different room to try to speak with him so she can not interrupt. I also noticed that when he and I are out alone, he starts to come out of his shell a lot. I am planning on taking him out this weekend to encourage our one on one conversation. That way I can work on boosting his own skills with out making my daughter feel like she's doing something wrong.

Team Queen’ s Fearn Tucker and Bentley Forever I didn't say anything about discipline. I was saying I take my son out of the room to encourage him to speak. For example if I ask him if he would like something to drink. Or I'll ask what movie he would like to watch. Or if he is frustrated and trying to say hes tired or hungry. I would never yell at my daughter for doing something that she believes is helpful. She is at a stage now where is reading everyone's emotions and facial expressions. If I yell at her for doing something that she believes is helpful, this will confuse her and make her feel like she is doing something wrong. She is too young to understand that her actions are not helping her brother develop. I would hope if you have kids or are responsible for children around you. You are a better and more affective communicator than you come off from such a negative comment.

Our son does all these things except he isn’t talking. He points, makes sounds & has said da-da & mama but I don’t think on those occasions it was said with intent. He is one year & 9 months. His siblings are 10 & 12, he doesn’t attend daycare. Should I be worried because I am worried?

My daughter is 2 years old and is doing everything you discussed in this video, however she is very clingy towards certain people (her caregivers which includes myself her dad and grandparents). She follows me around the house a log even when I think she is occupied with a toy etc...she would notice im gone and would follow me and start crying until she sees me again. Is this normal?
@nekoleamber
6 жыл бұрын
Hi Salma! So there is a range of normal, of course. It is hard to say one way or another without having more information about your daughter. If you are concerned, and want an OTs perspective I am taking clients for OT consultation sessions. Or you can always mention it to your daughter's pediatrician. Usually, kids will grow out of that phase; but again, hard to assess without more information.
