man, i have so much respect for your skimboarding. i myself started at age 35, weighting around 210 lbs, so being much heavier than most riders. and had to learn it on my own. burned through my first board now finally got a bigger one with more float... and i am living far away from the ocean... so i get like 2-3 opportunities a year to skim. hope you are still going man. would love to see an update. i might post a video in mid september, thats when i have an opportunity to skim again in portugal.

This is absolutely awesome. I'm on the right coast and I am right behind you in progression. I'm shutdown for the next couple of weeks (weather and minor cuff injury) but I will do my best to keep up. Ironically, I work in tech too.

Dope to see people get into the sport... Tip if you don't mind... Drop that left shoulder when wrapping the wave... It will make your body follow and you will get a great ride... Incredible progress for 2 years... Keep it up 🤙🏾

This is great man! For he bigger waves, if you are able to, make sure to lean more towards the 180 degree turn, and really try and pull in those feet. Trust me, it was a life changer for me!

Awesome!! Can I ask what size board you are using ?
@bennyskim
Жыл бұрын
Thanks, it's a Victoria Poly either 55" or 56". In my video "Learning to skimboard" at about 34 seconds, I line it up next to an Exile EX0 to show the difference in size/shape. Narrower tail than the EX0, but much wider mid & nose, and longer overall.

You should get a board that has like a fish tail at the end which will give you better response time on turns
@bennyskim
Жыл бұрын
Nice I want to get a fish next. Do you notice a big difference with controlling turns? Probably less wear/tear on the tail too, mine tends to wear just on that point.

One more question, how many times a month do you go to practice??
@bennyskim
Жыл бұрын
It's very seasonal. In late summer/fall I go 2-3x per day, mid winter not at all, spring maybe once a month, early summer about twice a week.
