I fondly recall this movie from childhood. I watched it on VHS, probably around 1988 or 89 or so. It made quite an impression on me. I need to give it another watch. Can't believe this was made in the 50s! Thanks for making these informative and thorough retrospectives!

Thank you so much! Yeah the movie was dated incredibly well. You just know they would CGI the hell out of the squid attack in a modern day remake and it wouldn’t be half as effective as what they accomplished in 1954!

Incredible movie. It really has stood the test of time. You just can’t beat old school practical fx like miniatures and models. James Mason as Nemo is outstanding. What’s also notable is that it’s a movie with absolutely no female characters whatsoever. What are the chances of that being the case with a modern remake by Disney? (Lol!)

Agree with everything you said. Yeah any remake by modern day Disney will be woke as hell!

Jules Verne it's the spiritual father of Science Fiction literature in its adventurous, pioneering way! But remember that back in the 1860s-70s people simply knew "Scientific Romance" ...some people like H.G. Wells, and yes, even Jack London, improved and uplifted the genre at The dawn of the XX Century

A great movie, remains one of my favorites. However I was disappointed in my teens when I read the book and how far the movie strayed from the source. I often wish a ‘real’ 20000 leagues under the sea’ could be made

Any film adaptation of a novel is always going to have changes. They are two different mediums after all. I get what you mean though. I think a modern day remake would be a woke disaster so maybe we should be glad with what we got! (LoL!)

Is that the Michael Caine one? I havnt seen it. I must check it out. I believe there was yet another version that year with Ben Cross as Nemo. I can’t imagine anyone being better than James Mason as Nemo though
