5:00 It's highly hinted that Ned wasn't arrested per se, but drafted into the expedition of the ship that was hunting the monster, that's why he's on board and not in jail. The company was desperate because sailors were bailing because of the damage the monster did.

I grew up on this film since I was eight, but what I appreciate now (now that I have it in Widescreen) is the long takes in some scenes. The cinematography of this film is on a whole different level.

Walt really pulled out all the stops to entertain us kids back in the 50s and 60s.

1:03:00 he WAS one of the slaves. He discovered the Nautilus's power and the Penal Colony wanted it and tortured Nemo's family to death for his secrets. This was a White Man's slave colony.

Kirk Douglas is a huge star at that time. Kirk Douglas did many war movies like "In Harm's Way" 1965, Starring John Wayne. Also "Spartacus" 1960. Both very good movies.

The Soundtrack version of "Whale of a Tale" had a better third verse IMO "Then there was Harpoon Hannah. Had a look that spelled out danger. My heart quivered when she whispered, I'm there, Stranger. Bought her trinkets that sailors can't afford. (Bass: sailors can't afford.) And when I spent my last red cent, she tossed me overboard!"

Really good movie. I have seen it many times. Many movies back then were also musicals. I don't like musicals, but this movie is quite good. With the special effects from today it does make this don't look as good as it did.

The drummer on the ship is sounding general quarters; there is no intercom system; it's 1868. And it was milk from the sperm whale, Not sperm.

This is one of my favorite classic Disney movies. Jules Verne, the author of the book. Wrote a sequel story called The Mysterious Island. The best movie adaptation of that story is the 1960 version of the same name with Ray Harryhausen effects. That is the version to watch but it has a different actor playing Nemo.

I went on the ride that Disney World had based on this movie. It was great to go on. I hear it is now a Finding Nemo ride.

7:00 This was the start of what eventually was called "Yellow Journalism," when newspapers printed fanciful stories that weren't necessarily true just to entertain the public and sell more papers. I think the papers were printed on the cheapest paper and it turned yellow within a day or two. 9:33 Captain Farragut was an actual Naval Officer, a southerner who fought for the Union during the Civil War, but he wasn't killed during an ocean expedition looking for sea monsters! Walt Disney really innovated with his beautiful underwater photography in this film.

Jules Verne had a certain fascination with the United States and post civil war. For instance the main characters in From Earth to the Moon were retired civil war artillery men. The main characters in The Mysterious Island were escaped Civil War prisoners.

This was the first live action movie Disney ever did and they did a great job with it, especially being their first live action feature film
